教学内容源于选修六课本第四单元Workbook中的Reading 部分“Clean Up Your Butts and Bags”。
1) 了解文章的主旨、关键信息和结构;
2) 重难点单词和句型,尤其是有关环保的 “re”前缀动词;
I. Lead-in
When I say“holiday”, or “Let’s take a holiday!” Do you feel excited? Is there a beautiful scene in your mind? Now let’s enjoy a short video about holiday. After watching, please tell me what is taking a holiday?
Transition: now please imagine---if rubbish is taking a holiday, it is beneficial or harmful to our life? Today we’ll learn a passage about two kinds of common harmful rubbish.
----Cigarette Butts and Plastic Bags.
II Fast-reading
How many paragraphs are there in this passage?
Now let’s do fast-reading and find the main idea of each paragraph.
(Pay more attention to the first and last sentence in each paragraph.)
Paragraph 1. Litter is a serious environmental problem.
Paragraph 2 Cigarette butts are small but are still bad for the environment.
Paragraph 3. Plastic bags are a danger to the environment.
Paragraph 4. The environment would be less polluted if we do something
to look after our planet.
III Careful-reading
Pair work: please focus on Para.2-3 and fill in the chart about 3 questions:
How many cigarette butts/ plastic bags are littered/used every year?
How long do cigarette butts/ plastic bags take to break down?
What about solutions?
Cigarette Butts
Plastic Bags
How many
How long
solution
--- Why we should put cigarette butts into dustbin?
--- Why we should recycle plastic bags?
Transition: As we all know, actions speak louder than words! I hope you can turn what you have learned in the passage into actions.
IV Post-reading
1. Group work: role-play and act out what shall we do. You can choose any items you need on your desks.
Situation1: in a supermarket
Situation2: in the classroom
Situation3: near our school
---Competition 1: Which group want to share your performance?
---Let’s review their vivid plays:
In face of plastic bags, what should you do? ---- Reduce
What can we use to replace them? ---- Eco-bags and lunch boxes.
What about smoking and cigarette butts? --- say no or Refuse.
(The moral education point: as a senior high school student, we should not smoke at all.)
Transition: there are so many other forms of harmful rubbish in our daily life, such as drugs/ medicine, LEDs and batteries. However, are these all the rubbish? Is it enough to just reduce or refuse? What about the other ones?
2. A short video about Peppa pig and her family. While watching, please think about two questions:
How does Peppa’s family deal with rubbish?--- Recycle
Why does Miss Rabbit take away their car? --- She loves recycling.
Transition: Actually recycling is around us! For example: the recycling bins, the recycling center and reused office desks in every classroom
--- Can we say we also love recycling?
--- Latest news: the general plan of waste sorting in Jinan is coming!
--- Call on every student to do recycling at school and home, meanwhile promote it among friends and families. Because everyone should love recycling!
V Discussion
Can you list other ways of recycling in your daily life? Yesterday I gave you a homework to try to reuse these waste. Now let’s recognize them first:
Please use these sentence patterns to introduce your ideas to your group mates.
At first, it was a/ from…
Then I cut off…/ put…into… / burn…/ pasted to(粘)…/ tied up(绑) … (with…)
Finally, I made a …
---Competition 2: who wants to show your handwork to compete for your group?
---Your creative handworks and ideas remind me of a sentence:
There is no difference between rubbish and resource. Rubbish is misplaced resource.
--- All of you have succeeded in turning waste into wealth using your imagination, that is to say before throwing them away, you Rethink and reuse them.
VI Conclusion
Green lifestyle/ Eco-life = Reduce + Refuse + Recycle + Rethink
Message from teacher: Rebuild your lifestyles. Return to our green planet!
VII Homework:
If your pen pal Mike is interested in your handwork and write to ask you to teach him how to do it. Please write him a reply and introduce your idea.
Para1. What reminds you of this idea?
Para2. How do you do with original wasted thing?
Para3. What do you make? And what do you use it for?
Four “Re”s. For green!
Rethink
Recycle
Reduce Refuse
