Step1 Lead in
Teacher’s activities:
Ask Ss to guess and choose the meaning of a proverb:
You are what you eat.
A: You will become what you eat.
B: Your health is decided by what you eat.
Students’ activities:
Guess and choose the meaning of the proverb.
Purpose:
好的导入可以调动学生的积极性,激发学生的学习兴趣,还能消除其它课程的延续影响,排除学生心里的杂念,让学生饶有兴趣地投入到新的学习情境中去,进而提高学习效率。因此本课的导入环节我从一条谚语开始,让学生猜测意思,从而意识到eating的重要性,导出本单元的单元话题——Healthy eating.

(1)Would you give us some more example words of different kinds of food?
(2)How much do you know should we eat to keep a balanced diet? Let’s look at the food pyramid.
What is a balanced diet?
We need_______energy-giving food,________protective food, _______body-building food, and_______ fat, sugar and oil.
Students’ activities:
Answer the questions about the menus.
(1)Give some more example words of different kinds of food.
(2)Known something about the food pyramid and read the sentences of “What is a balanced diet?”
Purpose:
通过了解我的家庭成员的menu,让学生意识到什么是平衡饮食。通过问题:为什么我的家庭成员要吃这些食物?得知不同的食物有不同的作用,从而引出食物的功能分类,并向学生说明这三类食物的区别和具体作用,并要求学生举出更多的食物名称,让学生进一步掌握不同的食物种类。接着问他们是否知道每天进食量,同时在PPT上呈现饮食金字塔,引导学生可以根据塔的原理平衡营养需求,达到健康饮食的目的。这样的安排为后面的阅读理解提供了背景知识,扫除了学生的知识障碍和语言障碍。最后设置一个填空题,让学生根据饮食金字塔给A balanced diet下个定义。至此学生对 healthy eating已经有了清晰的认识,为接下来的Reading部分做了充分的铺垫工作。
Step3 Pre-reading
Teacher’s activities:
Show Ss a picture about the passage, then ask Ss to answer some questions and guess the main idea about the story.
What can you see in the picture?
What does the man/lady look like?.
Where is it?
What are they doing? What is the lady saying?
Students’ activities:
Answer some questions about the picture to guess the main idea about the story.
Purpose:
让学生看屏幕上的图片,介绍本文主人公王鹏和雍慧,随后回答相关内容,目的是让学生主动去猜测内容,使学生产生读文章的欲望。同时,也能够较自然地过渡到文章中。
Step4 Fast reading
Teacher’s activities:
Task 1:The passage can be divided into 3 parts. Match the main idea of each part. (Emphasis on the red vocabulary )
Part 1(para.1) A. Wang Peng found the reason why Yong Hui’s restaurant was more attractive.
Part 2(para.2-3) B. Wang Peng thought out a good idea to have a competition
with Yong Hui’s restaurant
Part 3(para.4) C. Wang Peng felt frustrated because his restaurant was not as full as it usually was.
Students’ activities:
Read passage quickly according to the given advice about reading skills.
Purpose:
在fast reading中,旨在通过限时阅读训练,引导学生略读文章内容,归纳段落大意,理清文章脉络,侧重培养快速阅读理解能力和文章中心把握能力。要求学生快速浏览文章,了解文章的结构,将文章分成三个部分,找出每个部分的大意;操作过程中,将每部分大意以连线的形式呈现,降低学生的做题难度。每部分大意概括出来以后,学生很容易就能获得整篇文章的中心内容,为进一步阅读做铺垫。
Step3 Detailed Reading
Teacher’s activities:
Task 2:Read para.1 -para.3 carefully and finish the two menus. (Emphasis on the vocabulary of food)

2.Task 3:Read para.4 carefully and finish Wang Peng's research.
At the library Wang Peng was to find that his restaurant served and Yong Hui’s . Even though her customers might after eating Yong Hui’s food, they were not eating enough food to keep them . They would become very quickly.
Students’ activities:
Read para.1 -para.3 carefully and find the details about the two menus.
Read para.4 carefully and finish Wang Peng's research.
Purpose:
在Detailed reading中,有两个任务需要完成。一是阅读第一至第三自然段,请学生填写表格,比较雍慧和王鹏的餐馆在食物、价格以及优缺点方面的不同,以培养学生寻找文章细节的能力。另一个任务是阅读第四自然段,完成王鹏的调查。通过这两个任务的教学,学生能够了解文章详细内容,学习一些关于健康饮食的知识,达到训练寻找文章细节信息的阅读能力。
Step4 Further reading
Teacher’s activities:
Task 4: Give True or False to each statement and the reason.
1. Usually Wang Peng’s restaurant was full of people.
2. Yong Hui could make people thin in two weeks by giving them a good diet.
3. Wang Peng’s regular customers often became fat.
4. Yong Hui’s menu gave customers more energy-giving food.
5. Wang Peng’s menu gave customers more protective food.
6. Wang Peng decided to compete with Yong Hui by copying her menu.
Students’ activities:
Ss give the right answers through self-thinking and discussion with partners.
Purpose:
为了对全文进行更深一步的了解和学习,设置了第四个任务:让学生判断对错并找出理由。在鼓励自己思考的情况下给学生相互讨论的自由,这样既可以帮助学生加深对课文的理解,又可以培养学生独立思考和合作探究的意识。
Step5 Discussion
Teacher’s activities:
Discuss the two questions in group.
1.What kind of food does Wang Peng or Yong Hui give to their customers?
2.What kind of food should they add to their menu to make them balanced?
Students’ activities:
Have group discussion and present report.
Purpose:
通过回顾两个餐馆的不同,显示了两个餐馆的食物是不平衡饮食的两个极端。因此问学生“Is Wang Peng’s or Yong Hui’s menu balanced? 通过前面的学习,同学们的回答肯定是No。因此就会顺理成章地让学生们进行小组讨论,教师在这一环节进入学生讨论中并给予必要的指导。本环节的设计为学生提供了互相交流学习成果的平台。这个过程让学生将之前在文章阅读中输入的一些信息转换成自己的语言输出,激发学生养成健康饮食习惯的意识。
Step6 Summary
Teacher’s activities:
Sum up the knowledge about this class.
Show Ss a famous saying and ask them to read and memorize it.

Students’ activities:
Review the knowledge, read and memorize the famous saying of Juvenal, ancient Roman satirist.
Purpose:
1.学生跟随老师的引导对本节课所学内容做个小结,灌输学生幸福美好的生活源于健康的身体,而健康的身体需要有健康的饮食习惯加以保障。
2.通过“A healthy mind is in a healthy body”这句英语谚语,培养学生健康的生活习惯,进一步加深学生对本文主题的理解。
Step7 Homework
Teacher’s activities:
1. Pre-view Come and eat here (2) to find out who may win the competition.
2. Design a menu of balanced diet for yourselves. ( breakfast/ lunch/ dinner).
Students’ activities:
Use the information learnt in class to finish homework after class.
Purpose:
布置两个作业。第一,预习Come and eat here (2),预测故事的发展及结局并回答问题。第二,为自己设计一份早中晚的菜谱。这两个作业设计目的就是让学生把本节课的语言输入转换成文字输出,这既是对课堂所学知识的延伸,也弥补了课堂时间上的不足。
