There used to be a huge drum in the tower,which was used to tell the time at dark,and that is how the tower got its present name. Besides marking the time,the drum was also used to give warnings to people in times of war. A huge bell in the tower house was used to strike the time every morning. This is how the tower got its name.
As the symbol of Xi’an,the Wild Goose Pagoda is a well--preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists.
