1. Even more serious difficulties include freezing weather conditions and heavy storms. 更严峻的困难包括冰冻的天气条件和大风暴。
(1) difficulty既可作可数名词,也可作不可数名词。作可数名词时,difficulty通常用复数,表示具体的概念,即各种困难、难题、难事等。如:
People climbing mountains may often face various difficulties.
爬山的人们经常会面对各种各样的困难。

difficulty作不可数名词时,表示抽象的概念,意为“艰辛;费劲”。如:
I had great difficulty in finding my lost dog.

(2) include是及物动词,意为“包括;包含”。如:

这个价格包括镜面和镜框吗?
including不是include的动名词或现在分词形式,而是一个介词,意思也是“包括”。如:
The band played many songs, including some of my favorites.
乐队演奏了很多歌曲,包括几首我最喜欢的。
2. It is also very hard to take in air as you get near the top. 当你接近山顶时,连呼吸都会有困难。
(1)It is+adj.(+for sb.)+to do sth.意为“(对某人来说)……是很……的”。如:
It’s very important for us to get along well with each other.
大家彼此相处和睦对我们很重要。
(2)as在此意为“当……时”;as还可意为“像;由于;因为”。如:
Don’t worry! I’ll do it as you tell me.
别担心!我会按照你说的去做。
3. The first Chinese team did so in 1960, while the first woman to succeed was Junko Tabei from Japan in 1975. 中国登山队于1960年首次登顶,而在1975年,第一位登上珠穆朗玛峰的女性是来自日本的田部井淳子。
(1)while表示转折,意为“然而”。如:
They are twins, but they don’t look the same. One is fat, while the other is thin.
他们是双胞胎,但他们长得不太像。一个很胖,而另一个却很瘦。
(2)the first woman to succeed意为“第一位成功的女士”。the first/last/...to do sth.意为“第一个/最后一个/……做某事”。如:
He is always the first one to arrive and the last to leave.
他总是第一个来,最后一个离开。

4. Why do so many climbers risk their lives?为什么有这么多的登山者冒生命的危险?
(1)risk作及物动词,意为“冒……的风险;使……冒风险”,后可接名词、代词或动名词,即:risk sth., risk doing sth.。如:
①You should not risk your health for the job.
你不应该为了那份工作而冒损害健康的风险。
②We all know it’s a problem, but are afraid to risk
doing something different to solve it.
我们都知道这是个问题,但是又害怕冒风险做不同的
事情去解决它。
(2)lives在此是life的复数形式,意为“生命”。如:
He’s an experienced doctor. He saved many lives in his life.
他是一位很有经验的医生。在他的一生中,他救了很多人的命。
