四、阅读理解。(15分)
A
What do you think is the most magic thing in the world? To me, it is a smile. A smile can start a friendship (友谊) , stop us from getting angry with each other and also make us feel warm.
Last year, I came here to be a middle school student. I had no friends then and felt very lonely. One day between classes, I ran in the playground. Suddenly I fell over heavily and lay on the ground. I tried to stand on my feet, but I was unable to do so. My ankle (脚踝) was hurting badly. I felt very uncomfortable and did wish that nobody saw me. But just then I saw a boy running straight towards me. As I looked up, I saw a big and pure (淳朴的) smile. It was from my new classmate Leo. I felt so warm inside. He held my hand to help me stand up. Without saying a word, only a smile started the friendship between Leo and me.
Even best friends quarrel (吵架) sometimes and so do Leo and I. Last week after quarreling, I went home impolitely. Later I calmed down and felt terribly sorry for my rudeness. However, I didn't know what to do with the problem. Then, one day, I sent a smile emoji on my phone to Leo. I waited all day, worrying that he would never talk to me again. In the evening I was doing my homework when suddenly a ringtone (铃声) came to my ears. Leo video chatted with me! I saw a face of big smile on the screen. At that moment, all the complaints (抱怨) and embarrassment (尴尬) went away and there was only full understanding and friendship between us. That’s the magic of a smile.
As you can see, the power of a smile is great. Try to give others smiles every time and you will live in a magical world!

Perhaps you’ve already watched or heard about Readers (朗读者) , a TV show that has recently become very popular. It invites different people to read aloud on the stage (舞台) , as well as tell the touching stories behind them. They can read everything, like poems, books, and letters.

Reading pavilions (亭子) are now in cities like Shanghai, Hangzhou and Xi’an.
The pavilion is quite small. Only one person can come into it each time. There is a microphone (麦克风) in it and it records people’s voices. Everyone can read anything they like for three minutes in the pavilion. The show will later pick some of the readers and invite them to read on TV
People of all ages have come and read in the pavilion, according to People's Daily. “Reading should be just like singing and talking”, said Dong Qing, the host (主持人) of the show. “We can actually express our deep feelings through reading aloud.”

If you ask Jeff Shea who is from California where he is going or where he has been to, you better get a drink, sit back in your favourite chair and fresh yourself up to hear a long story.
The sixty-year-old adventurer (探险家) Shea has walked across Africa, Europe, America, Asia and other continents. In his spare time, he has also climbed the highest mountains all over the world. When he climbed Mount Qomolangma which is in China, he did not take the traditional ‘easy route (路线)’—the southern side of the Himalaya Mountains from India and Nepal, but the most dangerous northern side from Xizang, China.
Shea travels in his own way, seldom moving directly from Point A to Point B or just following anyone else’s route. Travel clubs for country collectors, divide (划分) the world up into 325, 875 and 1281 parts, but Shea has his own idea. He divides the world into 3978 parts. He has visited 2,330 of them and decided to complete the rest of them before his travelling days are over.
Shea’s love for traveling, however, isn’t about these numbers, life goals or risks (风险). For him, travel is like a holy activity, one that makes the mind and one’s horizons larger. In 2012, he founded (组建) an organization called World Parks in order to achieve what some people would view as a quixotic (狂想的) goal: making world leaders protect wild places as ‘world’ parks rather than ‘national’ parks. He is nothing if he is not ambitious (野心勃勃的). “My goal is to change the world,” he said.
( )11. Jeff Shea is a (n) from California, the USA.

( )14. Which is NOT true according to the passage?
A. Jeff Shea has been climbing peaks all around the world for over 60 years.
B. Jeff Shea suggests the leaders of the world take action to really protect
the wild places.
C. Facts show that Jeff Shea is very ambitious and is our hero.
D. Jeff Shea did not climb so many high peaks for the numbers, life goals and risks.
( )15. This article suggests that .
A. only the world leaders can do something to change the world
B. we should climb as many high mountains as we can before our travelling
days are over
C. World Parks, an organization founded by Jeff Shea is a club for climbing mountains

Going to a British school for one year and a half was a fantastic and exciting thing for me. A British school starts around 9 a. m. and ends about 3:30 p. m. It means I could stay in bed for an extra hour.
On the first day, all the new students had a meeting. The headmaster told us about the school rules. He also told us that the best way to get respect (尊重) was to devote (致力于) ourselves to study and get high grades. This sounded like my school in China.
We had to move to different classrooms for different classes. We also had different students in some classes, so it was difficult for me to remember all the faces and names.
I found that the homework was not as heavy as what I used to get in my old school. Yet it was a bit challenging for me at first, because all the homework was in English. We had many subjects—English, History, Science, Art and so on, but we can stop studying some subjects if we have no interest in them. Then they can choose some other subjects.
I missed Chinese food a lot at lunch. British food is very different. British people like eating desserts which usually come after their main meal. After lunch, we usually played on the school playground or relaxed under a tree.
I felt very lucky to live a different life. I really hope to go back and study in Manchester again.

The aim of students who come to school is to study. But to study requires(需要) a right way, or you waste either the time or the money. The following are the ways of studying.
