Step 1 Warming up
1. Show some pictures to elicit the usage of “can”.
2. Introduce the new words.
3. Ask the students to read through the words and expressions in Activity 1.

In English, we pronounce a word in different ways when it is stressed or not stressed. In “Yes, I can”, we pronounce can as /k?n/; in “Oh, good. You can come to help us”, we pronounce can as /k?n/.

本单元类似的句子还有We can teach you Chinese! So choose your favourite club和I play table tennis, so I choose the Table Tennis Club等。
汉语中用“因为……,所以……”这一关联词语完成一句话,但英语中because和so不能同时出现在一句话中。

4. Which club can she join?
这句话的意思是“她能加入哪个俱乐部?”
这是“疑问词which+名词club”引导的特殊疑问句。
根据汉语意思完成英语句子, 每空一词。

5. I think she’d like to join the Dance Club because she can really well.
我认为她想加入舞蹈俱乐部,因为她真的跳得好。
would like意为“想要”,其语气比用like 婉转些。
1) 后面接名词或代词,表示“具体要”某样东西。
e.g. I’d like two sweaters for my daughters.
我想给我的女儿们买两件毛衣。
Would you like some drink?
你想来点儿喝的吗?
2) 后面接动词不定式,表示“愿望,喜爱”,常用于有礼貌地提出邀请、请求或建议。
e.g. Would you like to come to supper?
你愿意来吃晚饭吗?
3) 当主语是第一人称时, would 可与should 换用,它们都可以缩写为 ‘d’,并且like也可换成love。
e.g. I’m sure he would love to come.
我确信他会愿意来的。
I should like the red one.
我喜欢红色的这件。
4) would like后面可以用动词不定式作宾语补足语。
e.g. What would you like me to do?
你想要我干什么?
I’d like you to meet my parents, too.
我想要你也见见我的父母。
6. Well, I can cook eggs, but that’s all.
我会炒鸡蛋,但仅此而已。
that’s all是口语中一句非常有用的表达,用法主要有以下三种:
1) 仅此这些或无关紧要,“没别的;没事;没什么;事情就是这样”。
e.g. —How are you feeling?你感觉怎么样?
—Fine. Just a little tired. That’s all. 还好,只是有点累,没事。
2) 表示沮丧或无可奈何,“没有(别的)办法”。
e.g. If it rains tomorrow, we shall have to stay at home, we can’t play football, that’s all.
如果明天下雨,我们只好呆在家里,不能出去踢球,没有别的办法。
3) 表示说话或做事完了(或暂时完了)。“……完了;……就这些”。
e.g. That’s all. Thank you. 我的发言完了,谢谢。
That’s all for today. 今天就到这里吧。
That’s all, you may go now. 就这些,你可以走了。
7. Don’t worry about Chinese.
别担心中文。
worry about = be worried about 担心
e.g. Don’t worry about your son.
= Don’t be worried about your son.
不要担心你的儿子。
