Have you ever thought about one question: why do we need to learn Math?
It is an interesting question. Kids around the world have been asking it for years. For US students, they may get the answer from a new exhibition called "Math Alive!" Fort-seven activities are designed to teach kids how Math is used in everyday life. For example, at one exhibition station, visitors test that a person's arm span (臂展)':equals their height. At another exhibition station, visitors can control the robot with the help of Math skills.
The exhibition will visit fifteen US and international cities in the next five years. Organizers say they want more kids to learn why Math is important in daily life. Think of simple things, like clocks. They tell time, but only if you know how to read them That means using Math. How much longer until school ends? How long did you sleep last night? That's all Math, too.
When you go shopping, you also do lots of Math. How much change would you get if you paid for a RMB 25.99 sweater with two twenties? How would you calculate a 30% discount? Even when you're not doing Math, it's all around you. The computer you use to surf the Internet is a machine to do binary (二进制) Math very fast.
So enjoy Math, not for exam, but for the wonderful world it helps to build.

Almost every kid in this country has ever eaten Hershey chocolate. But do you know that the Hershey chocolate factory is more than one hundred years old? And do you know that the father of Hershey Chocolate, Milton Hershey, had many failures in business before he started his famous company?
Milton Hershey grew up in Pennsylvania. Before he became interested in making chocolate, he worked as a printer for a small newspaper at first, and then decided that printing was not the right job for him.
Then he worked at a candy factory in Lancaster. After working a few years there, he decided to open his own little candy business near Philadelphia. His first business failed because it was not making money. After that, he went to Denver to learn how to make caramels (焦糖). He took his new skills back to New York and worked selling candies on the street. But his second business also failed,
Finally, Milton Hershey moved back to Pennsylvania where he grew up. He then experimented with all sorts of different candies and chocolate. By 1893 he was selling a million dollars worth of caramel candy each year. Since his chocolate-flavored (巧克力味的) caramels were the best selling, he decided to make chocolate himself.
By experimenting, Milton Hershey discovered how to make delicious chocolate. The area where he lived had a large and easy supply of milk and sugar, which helped him succeed in his chocolate business. In 1903, Milton Hershey built a huge chocolate factory and a town to go with it.
Today ,the town of Hershey is still the home of the factory that Milton Hershey built. And if you ever visit, you can smell delicious chocolate smells just by driving through the town.

Red squirrels used to be a common sight in British forests and countryside. But there are fewer than 140,000 red squirrels left now and most of them are in Scotland. However, grey squirrels (introduced from North America) are now so common that many people dislike them. They can be legally (合法的)trapped and destroyed.
On first sight, the two types of squirrel are similar. They both have a long tail, which helps the squirrel to balance when jumping from tree to tree, and the same large eyes, small ears and powerful back legs. However, the grey squirrel has a clear physical advantage over the red. The red squirrel has a head-and-body length of 19 to 23 centimeters, a tail length of 15 to 20 centimeters and a body weight of 250 to 340 grams. Compared to this, the grey squirrel is a larger animal. The head and body measures between 23 and 30 centimeters long and the tail is between 19 and 25 centimeters long. Adult grey squirrels are heavier, weighing between 400 and 600 grams. This size allows them to store more fat and helps them to survive a hard winter, which would be fatal (致命的) to their smaller cousins.
So why are red squirrels losing out in competition with grey squirrels? Size is one factor, but there are others. Red squirrels live high up in trees, while grey squirrels spend more of their time on the ground. This means any loss of forests greatly influences the red squirrel population. Another reason for the grey squirrel's success is its ability to use food provided by people. Like the fox, the grey squirrel can survive in towns and cities. The other problem for the red squirrel is disease. Both squirrels carry a certain virus. While this doesn't seem to attack grey squirrels, it is fatal to red squirrels.
1.Which are introduced from North America, red squirrels or grey squirrels?

After a long drive to New York, we found a motel, a place for travelers and their cars, with a really good price, So we decided to stay there for a week. On the second day, after visiting some interesting places and having a big dinner, we returned to the motel. It was about ten o'clock in the evening, and I wanted to study. However, I couldn't find my paper bag anywhere. I was quite sure that I had put it in the room. Suddenly, I realized the cleaner had taken it out with the rubbish.
I ran over to the main office, and asked if I could talk to the cleaner on duty that day. They told me all the cleaners had left for the day. They showed me where the rubbish bins were instead of offering me any help. I walked out of the motel with a flashlight (电筒). I saw three large rubbish bins standing in the dark. 1 had to look for my bag very carefully. But I didn't have any luck. I almost wanted to give up. We have heard about people who have special memories. Recently there has been a report about a woman from Australia who can remember almost every single detail of all the events in her daily life.
Rebecca Sharrock, 25, is one of just 80 people worldwide who have been identified as having Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory (超级自传体记忆症). It means she can remember every small event--which most people would forget within days--as if it had happened just moments ago.
"I remember my mum placing me in the driver's seat of a car and taking a picture of me when I was twelve years old," she said. "That's my earliest memory. I remember every day since then. I can't tell ll the dates exactly because I was too young to understand calendars, but I remember what I did that day, what the weather was like and so on."
Rebecca can also re-experience taste. If she's eating something pleasant, she thinks about Black Forest cake, her favorite food, and the memory will be so powerful that she can nearly "taste" it.
However, there are times when her memories prove to be painful as it's not just events that she remembers. "When I relive (再体验) memories, the feelings return, too." Rebecca said. "For example, I remember falling over when I was three at my grandparents' house and hurting my left knee. Talking about it now, I feel painful in my left knee."
"At night, I have to sleep with the radio and a soft light on," she added. "If it's too dark or quiet. my mind would be filled with all those memories and I can't sleep."

Venus (金星) has long been one of the most misunderstood planets.Like the earth, Venus has its own atmosphere. However, the atmosphere is much thicker than that of the earth, which makes it difficult for modern scientists to study. There is much we still do not know about what this planet like. However, using special machines, scientists have unlocked many of the long-hidden secrets in recent years.
Venus is in ninny ways the earth's sister planet. It is almost the same in size and chemistry as the earth. In other words, Venus is made up of almost the exact same types of materials as the earth, in about the same amounts.
In the early days of Venus' 4-billion-year-old life, it would have appeared very similar to the earth. The two would have been almost the same. However, over a period of a few million years ago, Venus lies much closer to the sun than our planet. It has made Venus terribly hot.
Since it is closer to the sun, Venus' temperature should be a little warmer than that of the earth. As the planet warmed, water which can be used to form oceans, lakes and rivers, evaporated (蒸发). This increase in water vapor (水蒸气) began a cycle of global warming. Water vapor is a very effective greenhouse gas. It caused the temperature to rise and more water to evaporate. The temperature then climbed still further.Today it is likely that all of Venus's water has evaporated into the atmosphere.

Eat something and drink juice after leaving the blood donation center. Make sure not to skip meals after blood donation. Smoking should be avoided up to one hour after blood donation.
At last be proud of ourselves that we've done a great task in making an attempt of saving someone's life.
