Passage----A
(2019中考科普环保类选练)
Satellites are an important part of our ordinary lives. For example, the information for weather forecasts is sent by satellite. Some satellites have cameras which take photographs of the Earth to show how clouds are moving. Satellites are also used to connect our international phone calls.
? Computer connections of the World Wide Web and Internet also use satellites. Many of our TV programs come to US through satellites. Airplane pilots also sometimes use a satellite to help them find their exact location.
? We use satellites to send television pictures from one part of the world to another. They are usually 35,880 kilometers above the equator. Sometimes we can see a satellite in the sky and it seems to stay in the same place. This is because it is moving around the world at 11,000 kilometers an hour—exactly the same speed that the earth rotates. A satellite must orbit the Earth with its antennae facing the earth. Sometimes, it moves away from its orbit,So there are little rockets on it which are used to put the satellite back in the right position. This usually happens about every five or six days.
? Space is not empty! Every week, more and more satellites are sent into space to orbit the Earth. A satellite usually works for about 10-12 years. Satellites which are broken are sometimes repaired by astronauts or sometimes brought back to Earth to be repaired. Often, very old or broken satellites are left in space to orbit the Earth for a very long time. This is very serious because some satellites use nuclear power and they can crash into each other.

?? A.35,880 kilometers per hour.??????????? ???????B.335,880 kilometers per hour.
?? C.11,000 kilometers per hour.???????????? ??????D.110,000 kilometers per hour

? A. In order to take photographs.??????? ??????????B. In order to stay in a certain position in the orbit.
? C. In order to move away from its orbit.? ??????????D. In order to send television pictures.
4.What does the underlined word “This” in the 3rd paragraph refer to?
? A. A satellite.????????????????????? ?????????????????B.A little rocket.
? C. A satellite seems to stay in the same place in the sky.
? D. The satellite puts the rockets in the right position.
5.Which is true of satellites?

Passage----A
(2019中考选练)
Is your TV connected to the Internet? What about your chair or your fridge? It is possible that they are not. But in the future, most things in your home may be connected, as the so-called "Internet of things" is developing.
??? The Internet of things may be coming sooner than you think. It is reported that during his speech earlier this year, Samsung CEO(首席执行官) BK Yoon spent a lot of time talking about the Internet of things. He said that five years from now, every Samsung product will be part of the Internet of things, whether it's a washing machine or a vacuum cleaner(吸尘器).
??? So, how do household(家用) objects that are part of Internet of things work? Well, think of a usual chair. When connected to the Internet, the chair warms up when it knows that the user has just walked into the room and is feeling cold.?
??? An Internet-connected camera, like a smart-home camera, could help people feel safer in their homes. It can recognize(识别) people's faces, and even can see when someone passes by in the dark. Then it can send you a message on your smartphone to let you know who's there. If the person is someone you don't know, it can tell you that, too.
??? But according to MIT Technology Review, whether companies are connecting dog food bowls or security(安全) systems to the Internet, there may be problems. For example, many early connected-home devices(装置) don't have much built-in security, which means they could be hacked(被黑客攻击). In addition, it could be difficult to get these devices to work together because they are made by different companies. To fight this, many companies have joined the Open Interconnect Consortium, which had 45 members by late 2014.
??? So, picture this: you walk in through the front door of your home. The temperature changes to make you feel comfortable after a long day at school. Your favorite music starts playing for you. Do you think that this would be a good thing? It may happen sooner than you think.
1. The Samsung CEO's speech is mentioned to prove that_____.
??? A. the Internet of things will appear in our daily life sooner
??? B. Samsung has produced the Internet of things recently
??? C. Samsung products have been part of the Internet of things
??? D. he spent a lot of time talking about the Internet of things
2. We can infer(推断)from paragraphs 3 and 4 that _____________.
?A. the chair can know whether the user feels cold or not
?B. a usual chair can warm up when it knows the user comes in
C. an Internet-connected camera can be used to take photos in the house
?D. an Internet-connected camera can be connected to the user's smartphone
3. According to the passage, it is mentioned that_____·
??? ①the temperature inside is neither too high nor too low
??? ②your fridge provides the drinks for you
??? ③the chair warms up if you feel cold
??? ④your favourite music starts playing
??? ⑤your washing machine starts working
??? A.①②⑤??????? B.②③④?????? C.①③④?????? D.①④⑤
4. What's the problem about the Internet of things?
?? A. Companies which produce connected-home devices haven't joined together.
?? B. Connected-home devices may not work together and can easily get hacked.
?? C. Companies have difficulty connecting security system to the Internet.
?? D. These new devices are produced by different companies.

William Blake described the eyes as the “windows of the soul”. Our eyes are the windows through which we see the world around us. Either way, there's no question that we place great value on our eyes and our eyesight. Surveys have shown that of the five senses, sight is the one that people fear losing the most.
Thinking about the important function of our eyes,we should give them the best care possibly, but sometimes we get too busy or forget to do a few simple things that can keep our eyes healthy.
Protecting your eyes starts with the food on your plate. Remember when you were a kid and your mom told you that carrots would improve your eyesight. Well, she might be right. Proper food will keep your eyes strong and healthy.
Give up your daily habits that could seriously injure your eyes. Always wear sunglasses in a sunny day to protect your eyes from Ultraviolet ray(紫外线). Rest your eyes every 20 minutes from the computer screen by looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds. At least every 2 hours, get up and take a 15?minute break when working at a computer.
Make sure your eyes do not get injured in the first place. You should try to prevent eye injuries whether you're playing sports or doing housework. You should also know when to wear safety glasses and what kinds will work best for you.
Last but not least, get your eyes examined regularly. Eye exams can help find some eye diseases. It's important to find these diseases early on, when they're easier to treat.

Passage----A
(2019中考日常生活类训练)
Dear Sunday Globe,
I am writing to tell you about your article Smartphones Make Life Easier in last Sunday’s newspaper. You did an excellent job explaining the good points of smartphones, but you didn’t talk about their bad points at all. So, I hope you’ll let me give your readers some advice on smartphone etiquette (礼仪). The first point I’d like to address is loudness. When you talk on your smartphone in public, please don’t shout. In fact, the microphones in smartphones are very sensitive (灵敏的). So, you can be heard even if you speak quietly.
Another point is about personal space. I don’t think it is polite to make calls in small spaces full of people. This makes others uncomfortable and forces them to listen to your personal business. What’s worse, it stops many face-to-face conversations from ever beginning.
Lastly, doing two things at the same time is dangerous. For example, making calls while driving is a bad habit. Pay attention to the road! Similarly, when staying with your friends, turn off your smartphone and enjoy their company.
Yours truly,
Amber Jala

Passage---B
Parents of very young children know this:You catch your child in the act of stealing the cookie — the evidence of candy written on his or her face. However, you get a wide?eyed denial:“I didn't do it!”
Learning to tell the truth, even at the risk of punishment,is an important part of moral (道德) development, and new research suggests it can take seven or more years for kids to get there.
Early in 2017 Professor Craig E.Smith published a study. He and his workmates chose 48 children between four and nine years of age. They told the kids a story about a boy or girl doing something wrong, such as taking a classmate's toy or candy, and then either lying about the wrongdoing to a parent or confessing (承认) it.In each case, they asked the children,“How would the child feel? How would the mother feel?”
The children's answers were generally divided according to age, which is in agreement with the above research, showing a gradual growth of moral understanding in early childhood. More of the four?to?five?year olds thought the child in the story would feel better keeping the stolen candy, lying and getting unpunished. They imagined the parent in the study would be angry with the child who confessed. However, the seven?to?nine?year?olds were more likely (可能的) to think the child would feel better confessing the crime and that the parent would have positive (积极的) feelings towards a confessor.
Smith says, “Kids of all ages who expect that a parent would feel happy about a child's confession are more likely to tell the truth rather than lie.Reward the honesty even if you feel you must punish the wrong action.”He adds, what parents can learn from these studies is to listen calmly without getting angry right away when their child confesses.
( )6.What does the underlined word“denial”in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.委屈 B.责备
C.否认 D.拒绝
( )7.Paragraph 2 mainly tells us______.
A.kids can't tell“right”from“wrong”
B.it takes time for kids to learn to tell the truth
C.it's wrong to punish kids for telling the truth
D.all the kids are willing to confess to a bad act
( )8.What did Smith and his workmates find in their study?
A.Older kids are more likely than younger children to confess to a bad act.
B.Younger children are more likely than older kids to confess to a bad act.
C.The four?to?five?year?olds would feel better confessing the crime.
D.The seven?to?nine?year?olds thought parents would be angry with their confessions.
( )9.According to Professor Smith, what can parents learn from these studies?
A.Parents should at once punish the children who lied.
B.Parents should tell children the wrongness of lying.
C.Parents should never get angry after their children's confessions.
D.Parents should show positive feelings about their children's confessions.
( )10. What does the passage mainly talk about?

2019中考英语阅读理解优编题(五)
第一部分
Passage----A
(2019中考教育类选练)
Do you consider failure as an ending? Do you often feel after a failure that you are good for nothing? Then be careful, you are one of them who have bad relationship with failure. And this is the only reason why people often keep themselves away from their success. The power of failure is that it helps us to learn fro our mistakes and missteps and we must consider a failure as an opportunity to grow rather than giving up.
Let's discover the reasons why successful people believe that opportunity lies in every failure.
Disappointment or failure shows that you are trying
The best way to gauge(衡量)your progress at something is to see how many times you failed. In case you haven't failed yet, chances are that you haven't tried hard yet.
Look at all successful men and women throughout our history, they all had one thing in common. That's to say they failed not once but several times before they achieved success. Let's take an example of Thomas Edison: he failed a lot of times to find right filament(灯丝)for his light bulb. Henry Ford had a stronger relationship with failure, which inspired him to quote this unforgettable saying “failure is the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently.”
Achievement lies in looking at failure as an opportunity
Just like every successful person had one thing in common, similarly all unsuccessful persons throughout our history had one thing in common --- their inability to use failure as an opportunity and a tool. If you feel your one failure is your ultimate (终极的)failure, and that feeling of sinking down is known as an ultimate failure, you are pushing yourself away from your expected success. Achievement is all about finding out what mistakes you made, what is the main cause of that failure, and how you are going to make up for it.
Success requires willpower, passion, hard work, intelligence, determination, but all of the above, success requires failure. Use your failure as an opportunity to learn, to become wiser and to reconsider your relationship with failure, the true key to success.
1. According to the writer, why do people keep themselves away from their success?
A. Because they don't set long-term goals.
B. Because they haven't got enough time.
C. Because they can't deal with failure properly.
D. Because they are disappointed in themselves.
2. Why does the writer take the example of Thomas Edison?
A. To explain the reasons for failure.
B. To prove the importance of failure.
C. To take pride in Thomas Edison.
D. To introduce the process of making a light bulb.
3. What can you learn from the passage?
A. Failure can build up your confidence.
B. Successful people seldom failed.
C. Failure is more important than success.
D. Successful people use failure as a tool.

I've been working in a school for more than twenty years. Many parents often ask me, “How can you teach your child good study skills? How can he or she get the homework done as quickly as possible?” Here are some tips:
1. If the child is as young as nine or ten years old, ask him or her to prepare a small notebook to write down the homework given by his or her teachers. By developing this habit, he or she will learn to be much more responsible (负责的).
2. Find a good place to study. This should be a quiet place that is free from everything but study things. No games, radios, or televisions. Once you have decided on a place to study, this should be the only place where your child does his or her homework and studies. There should also be a very specific time for homework to be done. Usually, homework should be done as soon as the child gets home from school. This also goes for the kids who take part in after?school activities. Of course, it is a good idea to allow the child to have a healthy snack before the work begins.
3. Also remember that it is the child's duty to do his or her homework. Some children give up easily and go to Mom and Dad for help when they have a problem. Try to let them solve it first. By doing this, they will get a sense of success from overcoming problems. In this way we help them to help themselves.

C. more responsible D. more interested in studying

Who are better at science in your class, girls or boys? These years, girls start to show more interest in the subjects of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), according to a recent study from the UK.
In the study, every year over the last seven years, over 20,000 students who were in their final year in high school were surveyed. As for university courses, the number of girls considering choosing STEM subjects has a bigger increase than that of boys. Over one?fifth of the girls surveyed said they were considering jobs related to STEM, such as engineers. And the interest in engineering and science has also risen.

Only 13%~22% of people who graduate from university with STEM degrees are women. And women are seen only one in eight STEM jobs.
Are men really more suited to STEM work than women? Of course not. This is partly because of the stereotype,_which means many people think so, even though it is not correct.
“It is important that young women should be encouraged to get into these jobs. In fact, STEM subjects are fun and exciting. Studying science can do us good. It offers women chances of taking up fantastic careers and they will get higher pay in these areas,” said Niki Yates, manager of GSK's business.
