Module 1 My First Day at Senior High


Lesson 1 Introduction
教材分析
This is the first module of the textbook. This module focuses on the new school life at Senior High, which helps students get used to the new school life in a better way. And this lesson is intended to give students a chance to talk about their school life in the past and at present, and then find the differences between them.

By the end of this lesson, students will enlarge their vocabulary related to school life.
Students can know how to get used to the new school life in a better way.
Students can communicate with their partners in English more fluently and more actively.

Do you like English?
How did you learn English at your Junior High school?
Can you use some adjectives to describe your English teacher. And can you show the reasons?

本单元的话题是关于学生进入高中后的学校生活。本节英语课其实就是学生高中学校生活得一部分,由以上问题进行导入,既很自然地将学生的注意力吸引到本节课话题,同时也帮助教师更好了解学生初中学习英语的情况。
Step 2 The method of learning English at Senior High
Students discuss the topic in groups of four.
Help summarize the discussion and share the method with the whole class.
Students analyze the differences between the learning method of Junior High and that of Senior High.

从初中学习到高中学习,学习的学习方法也需要适当的改变。这一环节便能很好地引导学生关注两种学习方法的差异,更好地进行接下来的英语学习。
Step 3 Differences between Junior High and Senior High
You have just come to this school. I know there must be many other differences between your senior high school and junior high school. Can you tell me more differences?

The reading material focuses on Li Kang’s first day at Senior High school and his/her thought about it. In the material, there are important adjectives and expressions which show the author’s opinions.

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
(1) master the important words and expressions, such as amazing, attitude, that, I don’t think…, in other words, …times as many/much…as;
(2) apply the words and expressions to practical use;
(3) master the differences between adjectives ending in -ing and -ed.
(4) develop their creativity.

amazing
原文再现:The teachers are very enthusiastic and friendly and the classrooms are amazing. (Lines 8-10) 老师们非常热情和友好,教室也令人惊叹。
amazing和amazed的区别:amazing表示令人吃惊,后接介词at或by;amazed表示感到吃惊。
如:I was amazed by the information on the website. 我对网上的这个信息感到吃惊。
His invention was amazing. 他的发明令人惊叹。
He is an amazing inventor. 他是一位了不起的发明家。
Practice:

attitude后接介词to或towards

Step 3 Difficult sentences
Lines 21-24: Ms Shen’s method of teaching is nothing like that of the teachers at my Junior High school. 沈老师的教学方法不像我初中时老师的教学方法。
that指的是the method of teaching
如:(1) The population of China is larger than that of France.
The traffic on the main streets has a longer green signal than that on the small ones.
I don’t think I will be bored in Ms Shen’s class! 我认为上沈老师的课我是不会感到厌倦的!
当主句谓语动词为suppose, think, believe, expect等,主句主语为第一人称代词I或we时,从句的否定词往往前移。
如:I don’t believe he will come tomorrow. 我相信他明天不会来。
In other words, there are three times as many girls as boys. 换句话说,女生人数是男生的三倍。
in other words意思是换句话说,前后表达的意思是一样的。
如:He has another appointment on Thursday.?In other words, I don't think he'll be attending your gathering. 他周四另外有约了。换句话说,我认为他不会参加你们的聚会。
倍数+ as many/much+名词+as
如:There is twice as much water in this bottle as in that one. 这个瓶里装的水是那个瓶里的两倍。

The listening material is about two students’ language lessons. It also helps students talk about their own language lesson in a good way.

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
(1) master the new words: correction, encouragement, enjoyment, fluency, misunderstanding and disappointed;
(2) apply the words to practical use;
(3) improve the listening and speaking abilities;
(4) communicate with partners smoothly and actively.

(2) find the differences between school life in China and that in US;
(3) talk about their school and express their thoughts smoothly.
