Pandas are very cute animals. In 1972, two pandas named Hsing-Hsing and Ling-Ling were sent from China to the United States as a gift. The National Zoo in Washington, D.C. became the pandas’ new home. Americans fell in love with the two pandas right away. On the first day the two pandas came to the zoo, about 20,000 people visited them. People kept coming year after year.

A writer can write many songs. Sometimes a writer’s favourite song isn’t his most successful one. “Walkin’ in the Sun” is a good example. It’s not my most successful song but it is very meaningful to me.
My father was blind (失明的) since he was about 6 years old. He was an insurance broker (保险经纪人). He did most of his work at home in Brooklyn, New York. Most of his sales were done on the phone. And he was really good at it. Sometimes, however, he had to go to the offices in?Manhattan.
One day, when I was about 13, I went to the offices in Manhattan with him. We were on the way to the underground station and I remember it was the end of the day. It was a little cold. My dad asked if the sun was out on the other side of the street. I said, “Yes.” He said, “Let’s walk on that side of the street.”
Many years later, when I was probably 30, I was writing songs for myself. I had an office at A&M Records and they wanted me to record (录制) some of my songs. I thought about that day and “Walkin’ in the Sun”. It’s very simple (简单的). It says that when things are very negative, you need to know when they get better.
