For twelve children aged between ten and fifteen, Saturdays are spent learning the art of cooking. Their weekly lessons in small classes are so popular that there is a waiting list of 30 children who want to do the course. Parents pay £280 for the course where their children can have fun and learn how to make good food.
Class member Bill, aged ten, says, “I love my mum's cooking and now I can do it better than her. The teachers always make us laugh, especially when we sit down with them to share the food we've made.”
Flora is twelve, and she says, “I did a meal for ten friends which they really enjoyed. Then my mum suggested I take up a hobby, instead of doing nothing at weekends. I was happy staying at home, so I wasn't too keen at first. I'm really glad I decided to come, though.”
Their teacher, Philippe says, “The students are great. They pay attention and remember things better than adults (成年人), although the kitchen isn't always as tidy when they're cooking! As adults, we're always learning more about food. If parents interest their children in cooking while they are young, they'll have enough skills to make food for themselves when they leave home.”

When Mr Brinks walked in carrying a CD player, everyone got excited. We knew we would have fun.
“Keep quiet, everyone,” called Mr Brinks. Then he looked around the room and added, “I'm glad everyone's here for the last spelling test of the year.” Everyone groaned (叹息), and Mr Brinks laughed. “Just kidding,” he said. “But really, we have some work to do.”
“What?” we all asked at once. It was the last day of school. Nobody wanted to work.
“You need to clean out your desks. Now put everything in your bags.” With that, Mr Brinks turned the CD player on.
The music created a party mood (氛围). Some of us sang along, and some of us danced around our desks as we cleaned them out. Mr Brinks did a few fancy (花式的) steps as he cleaned the notice board. Everyone laughed. It was a side of Mr Brinks we didn't see very often.
When our desks were clean, someone asked, “How long until recess (课间休息)?” Mr Brinks took out three balls. He threw them into the air and started juggling (连续抛接) them around and around. Then he let the balls drop and roll across the floor. “Recess starts ... now!” he cried.
Just then Mrs Molinas, the headmaster, suddenly appeared at the door. “Mr Brinks!” she called.
The room fell silent. We were afraid Mr Brinks was in big trouble now. But Mrs Molinas's mouth was wiggling (扭动). She was trying to look annoyed, but she couldn't do it. Finally, she broke out laughing and walked away.
Mr Brinks took us outside for the recess. After recess, he led us back. On the way to our room, he stopped at the lunchroom. “I need to get something,” he explained. Then he went in and returned with three boxes of ice cream.

Ⅶ. 阅读表达(共10分,每小题2分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容完成后面各项任务。
Hummingbirds are birds from the Americas. They are among the smallest of birds. They get their name from the humming sound they make as they fly.
Hummingbirds live mostly on nectar (花蜜), a kind of sugar water found deep inside flowers. Drinking nectar almost all day long gives hummingbirds the energy they need to keep their wings beating fast, typically around 3,000 times a minute. Hummingbirds' hearts beat fast too, up to 1,260 times a minute (yours beats about 70). And they breathe (呼吸) about 250 times a minute. So they need a lot of energy. This means that hummingbirds need to eat almost all day long. 它们从一朵花飞到另一朵,很少休息。
As a hummingbird feeds, its beak (鸟嘴) and face get covered in pollen (花粉). When the bird visits another flower, some pollen falls off. Hummingbirds help the flowers by spreading pollen around from plant to plant. It's a fair trade: the hummingbird gets a meal and the plant gets to make seeds (种子).
For humans, eating sugar all day would lead to serious health problems. Our bodies could not deal with that much sugar. But hummingbirds burn their sugar as quickly as they eat it, so it doesn't become a problem.
In fact, hummingbirds don't live on nectar alone. They also eat a lot of insects and spiders. And maybe with enough nectar, the spiders don't taste quite so bad.

As middle school students, we should always keep safety in mind. But how can we keep safe? Here are some of my suggestions.
First, we should be careful when we make friends, especially on the Internet.
Second, if we are in danger, we should call the police for help in time so that we can keep ourselves safe.
Third, we should eat healthily and safely. Eating food that goes bad will do harm to our health.
Last, we should remember it's dangerous to go back home too late.
In short, safety must come first!
