   Section A(1a-2d)

知识点 一
allow允许;准许
My parents don’t allow me to hang out with my friends.我父母亲不允许我和朋友一块儿闲逛。

so that以便;为了
You should call him so that you can say you’re sorry.
你应该给他打电话这样你就能对他说对不起了。
so that意为“以便;为了”,引导目的状语从句,与in order that同义。

Why don’t you...?
Why don’t you talk to your parents?
为什么不跟你的父母谈谈呢?
Why don’t you do sth.?是一个否定疑问句,“为什么不……?”常用来征求意见和提出建议,相当于Why not do sth.?句式。
表示赞同用:Good idea!/Great!/Sure.等。
表示反对时,直接说明理由即可。如:
—Why don’t you give her some flowers?
——你为什么不给她一些花呢?
—That’s not special enough.——那不够特别。

look through快速查看;浏览
I found my sister looking through my things yesterday.
昨天我发现我的妹妹在翻看我的东西。
1. find sb.doing sth.发现某人在做某事
She found her mother sleeping in the sofa when she came back.她回来的时候发现妈妈在沙发上睡觉。
2. look through为“动词+介词”构成的动词短语,意为“快速查看;浏览”。

get on with和睦相处
My problem is that I can’t get on with my family.
我的问题是我不能和我的家人和睦相处。

get on with为“动词+副词+介词”构成的动词短语,与get along with意思相同。
get on / along well with意为“和某人相处得很好”。
They get on well with their teachers and classmates.
他们和他们的老师和同学相处得很好。
知识点二 whatever pron.任何;每一
Instead he watches whatever he wants until late at night.
而他却看他喜欢的任何节目,一直看到很晚。
whatever此处用作代词,意为“任何;每一”,用来引导名词性从句,如主语从句和宾语从句。
Whatever she said is true.
她说的都是真的。
whatever还可以引导让步状语从句,与no matter what意思相同,意为“无论什么;不管什么”。 
Whatever you say,I won’t change my mind.
不管你说什么,我都不会改变主意。
知识点 二 offer v.主动提出;自愿给予
If your parents are having problems,you should offer to help.
如果你的父母遇到了问题,你应该主动提供帮助。
offer作动词,意为“主动提出;自愿给予”,常见结构为offer to do sth.“主动提出做某事”;offer sb. sth.或offer sth. to sb.“为某人提供某物”。
若offer所接的直接宾语和间接宾语都为代词,只能用后者,即offer sth.(代词) to sb.(代词)。
辨析provide,offer与give
三个词均有“供给;供应”之意,区别主要在结构上。
(1)provide for =providewith
(2)give=giveto
(3)offer强调“主动提供”

马先生给年轻人提供了一些好主意。
The restaurant provided delicious food for us.
这家餐馆为我们提供了美味的食物。
Mrs.Allen gave her husband a sweater for his birthday.
艾伦夫人给她丈夫一件毛衣作为生日礼物。

知识点 一 compare v.比较
And they are always comparing them with other children.
并且他们总是把他们和别的孩子比较。
表示“把……与……比较”,通常用compare...with...
compare的其他用法
1.compared with为过去分词短语,表示被动含义,意为“与……相比”。
Compared with the white one,I like the black one better.与那个白色的相比,我更喜欢这个黑色的。
2.compare...to...意为“把……比做……”。
He compared the girl to a flower.他把那个女孩比做花。
【警示】 compare...to...也有“把……与……比较”之意,此时可与compare...with...互换。

知识点 二 continue v.持续;继续
In some families,competition starts very young and continues until the kids get older.在一些家庭里,竞争从很小就开始了,一直持续到孩子们长大。
continue在句中作不及物动词,意为“继续;持续”。
continue还可作及物动词,其后跟名词、代词、动词不定式或动词-ing形式作宾语。例如:
Let’s continue our meeting.咱们继续开会吧。
He continued writing/to write until he died.
他坚持写作,直到去世。

本单元的话题是“烦恼与建议”。该话题通常点明自己或他人的烦恼,并向他人征求意见或给出合理的解决办法,最后提出祝愿。

情态动词should/could与
until,although,so that引导的状语从句

一、情态动词should与could
1.情态动词should的用法
should表示责任和义务、提出劝告等,意为“应该;应当”,可用于所有人称,其否定形式是在should后加not,可缩写为shouldn’t。
You should wait a little longer.你应该再多等一会儿。
You shouldn’t talk with him like this.
你不应该这样跟他说话。
2.情态动词could表建议的用法
could可以用来提供建议,意为:“可以”。
When we have problems in our life,we could ask our parents,teachers or friends for help.生活中有困难时,我们可以向父母、老师或朋友求助。
二、until,although,so that引导的状语从句
1.until
until连词,意为“直到……之时”,引导时间状语从句。在肯定句中必须与延续性的动词连用。not...until...表示否定,意思是“直到……才……”。
They didn’t go to bed until the work was finished.
他们直到完成工作才去睡觉。
Until you told me about it,I had known nothing.
直到你告诉我那件事,我才知道。
2.although
although连词,意为“虽然,尽管”,引导让步状语从句,可以放在主句前面,也可以放在主句后面。
I don’t know them well although we are neighbors.
尽管我们是邻居,但我不太了解他们。
Although my sister was ill,she went to school yesterday.
虽然我姐姐病了,但是她昨天还是去上学了。
3.so that
so that意为“以便;为了”,常用来引导目的状语从句。
I study hard so that I can catch up with my classmates.
我努力学习,以便赶上我的同学。
He runs every morning so that he can keep healthy.
为了保持健康,他每天早晨跑步。
