概念：过去进行时表示在过去某一时刻或某一时间
段内正在进行或发生的动作。
结构：过去进行时由“was/were＋动词的?ing形式”
eg: Peter was reading a book in the library when the
rainstorm came.
当暴风雨来临时，彼得正在图书馆读书。

标志：过去进行时的常用时间状语：过去进行时常用then (那时),
last night (昨晚), at that time (当时), at three yesterday (昨
天3 点), the whole morning (整个上午)，at this time
yesterday (昨天这个时候)等作时间状语。
eg: What were you doing at 9:30 yesterday evening?
昨天晚上9: 30 你在干什么？
It was raining heavily at this time yesterday.
昨天的这个时候雨正下得很大。

1.过去进行时常表示过去某一时刻或过去某一阶段内正在进行的动作。

While/When I was doing my homework, my mother was cooking.

一般过去式和过去进行时的区别
（1）过去进行时强调动作在过去某时刻正在进行或持续，而一般过去时
表示动作的完成。
He was doing his homework last night.
他昨晚在写作业。(不一定写完)
He did his homework last night.
他昨晚写了他的作业。(已经写完)

（2）表示过去的状态、感觉及心理活动的静态动词(如be, like, love, hate,
fear, own, hear, see, know, want, notice)可用于一般过去时，但通常不
用于进行时。
I hated it when a man spoke with his mouth full of food.

（3）一般过去时与 always, constantly, forever, continually 等连用，表示
“过去经常性、习惯性的动作”；而过去进行时与 always,
constantly, forever, continually 等连用，表示动作的重复，常带有

He was always thinking of his work. 他总是一心想到工作。

when 既可以表示时间点，也可以表示时间段，从句中谓语动词可以是延续性动词，也可以是瞬间动词。
while 只表示某个时间段，从句谓语动词必须用延续性动词，且多用于进行时态。强调主句与从句的动作同时发生或主句的动作发生在从句的动作过程中。
