In recent years, there is an increasing tendency of high school students choosing to study abroad. Therefore, our class held a heated discussion about whether high school students should study abroad and in what aspects studying abroad can benefit or do harm to us.
According to students who are in favor of this idea, studying in a foreign country can provide them with a good language environment, which is beneficial to them to pick up the language. Meanwhile, apart from being independent, it is a good opportunity for them to visit the local tourist destinations and experience the local social customs, which consequently can help them widen their horizons and broaden their minds.
On the contrary, students who are opposed to this idea think that it may be difficult for them to adapt to the whole new way of life because they are too young and lacking in living experience, which may result in their feeling lonely and homesick. In addition, the cost of living is so high abroad that few families can actually afford it.
As far as our group is concerned, we disapprove of overseas study because we hold the opinion that it is too early for high school students to pursue overseas education. Maybe it’s better for us to consider it after college when we are old enough to attend to ourselves both physically and mentally.
Just as Xu Xin says, education in every country has its own characteristics, so we should not complain. What we should do is to cherish what we have.
