During the summer holiday, some students might have been busy with traveling, summer camps and all kinds of courses. But a special group of Chinese middle school students decided to taste the hardship of life outside school.
Twelve students in a big city sold vegetables at a local market together. Within 12 days, they made more than 1,500 yuan.
Among them, the oldest is 21 years old, while the youngest is just 10. They are all cousins ina big family and eight of them are from rural areas.
“Compared to traveling, such social practice connects us and makes us learn how tough our parents are,” said Dalin,18, to the City Morning Post. Dalin, a senior high graduate, and her 12-year-old brother Xiaolin came up with the idea.
They learned to work hard to sell their veggies. Every morning they had to wake up at 3 o’clock. Some of them went to the farmer’s market to buy vegetables. Some of them went to the local market to take up a temporary stall (临时摊位). To lower the cost, they learned to bargain (讲价)with the sellers.
At about 6:30 am, they began to sell vegetables. They peddled (吆喝 ) loudly to attract(吸引)customers. After several days, they got some experience, too.
For example, it was better to put vegetables in order and bigger ones on top. When the vegetables are too heavy, they should give customers an extra plastic bag.

Many people know that rubbish is a big problem on planet Earth. What many people don'tknow is that junk(垃圾)has become a problem in outer space too.
According to BBC News, there are more than 22, 000 pieces of space junk floating aroundtheearth. And these are just the things that we can see from the surface of the earth by telescopes (望远镜). There are also millions of smaller pieces of junk that we can't see.
Objects, like bits of old space rockets or satellites, move around the planet at very high speeds so fast that even a very small piece can break important satellites or become dangerous toastronauts. If the tiniest piece of junk crashed into a spaceship, it could damage the vehicle.
To make things worse, when two objects in space crash, they break into many smaller pieces. For example, when a U.S. satellite hit an old Russian rocket in 2009, it broke into more than 2,000pieces, increasing the amount of space junk.
To reduce additional space junk, countries have agreed that all new space tools can only stayin space for 25 years at most. Each tool must be built to fall safely into the earth's atmosphere afterthat time. In the upper parts of the atmosphere, it will burn up.
Many scientistsalso suggesting different ways to clean up space junk. In Englandscientists are testing a metal net that can be fired into space junk. The net catches the junk and thenpulls it into the earth's atmosphere to burn up. The Germans are building robots that can collectpieces of space junk and bring them back to Earth to be safely destroyed.
The problem is becoming more challenging because we're sending more objects into space tohelp people use their mobile phones and computers,”says Marco Castronuovo, an Italian spaceResearcher.

Football, to me, is more than just a game. I have probably learned more valuable lessons from it than from school.
When I joined the team freshman year, I didn’t’realize what I was getting into. Even though I had been playing since fourth grade and knew it was hard work, nothing would prepare me for the effort I would put into football that year. We worked all summer in the weight room and ran on the track to get in physical and mental shape before the season.
See, football is more of a mental sport than anything else, so running on the track wasn’t only about getting in shape. We would push our minds by running as hard as we could even if we were going to pass out. At the beginning, I was immature(幼稚) and only thought of myself, sometimes even gave up when I was tired or hurt. Then after the third game I had a season-ending injury. Imagine working all summer and then only being able to play three games! I needed surgery(外科手术) on my arm and at least five months to recover.
Needless to say, I missed the rest of the season, but this actually helped me realize that since you never know when your last play will be, you should try your hardest in football and life.
After freshman year I decided that I would always give my best effort. Playing varsity(校队的) football has taught me so much more than just what my assignments are on a particular play or how to block. I have learned to think about others first and realized how important working hard is. Being with all my friends, even sweating and bleeding with them, really made us bond as a group of hard-working young men who I know will succeed in life.
32.What is the main idea of the passage?
A. How the author dislikes the game of football. B. When the author began to play football.
C. How the writer changed his attitude to football. D. What sport the author likes best.
33.The author thinks football is_______.
A. just a game B. of a mental sport
C. hard to be out-of-date D. not worth his effort
34. In the third paragraph, the underlined phrase “getting in shape” probably means “______”.
A. becoming healthy B. designing the playground
C. losing weight D. measuring the track
35. From the text we can infer(推断) ______.
A. the author joined the football team with a clear aim
B. football only brought the author certain assignments
C. the author never lost heart when he met with difficulty
D. the author worked all summer to get ready for the season

___36___ Do not hide things from them; do not lie. Don’t be afraid to say things that aren’t very flattering about yourself. Getting them to trust you is the most important element in any relationship. If there’s no trust, there’s nothing there. So please be honest and they’ll learn to open up to you.
Make sure you give them respect. Now respect isn't just simply treating her or him nicely. There’s a lot more to it. You have to learn to adjust to their liking. ____37____ Don’t just think about yourself; think about what your partner needs out of it as well.
___38___ Always be willing to help them and give them honesty and positivity at the same time. Make them feel you are someone they can really count on. This is an important step in a relationship.

书面表达
Dear Peter,
Knowing that you express a keen interest in Chinese culture, I’m more than glad to tell you something concerning the Double Ninth Festival.
The Double Ninth Festival, a traditional Chinese festival, falls on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. In fact, it is a festival for the elderly. On this day, some pay a visit to their parents or grandparents, sending them their best wishes and spending some fun time with them. Others may do some voluntary work in a nursing house. They sing, dance, play games with these senior citizens and keep them company. In my opinion, this festival is of great significance because it reminds the young to have a sincere respect for the aged.
I hope you have a deeper understanding of Chinese culture after knowing more about the Double Ninth Festival.
Yours
Li Hua
