学习 目标 1) Knowledge and skills(知识和能力) In this period, students will learn how to use the Present Continuous Tense further to describe daily lives and activities. Sentence patterns such as sb. is doing sth. will be frequently encountered in the course of reading. By reading this TV report, students’ reading skills such as fast reading and detailed reading, and the skill in retelling will be improved. Moreover, it hopes to arise students’ interests about traditional Chinese Festivals like Dragon Boat Festival. 2) Process and methods(过程与方法) By adopting the methods of direct teaching, task-based teaching and heuristic teaching and by setting different types of group competitions, it hopes to help students understand this report about Zhu Hui deeply and improve their skills reading such as fast reading and detailed reading. In the mean time, it promotes students’ ability in retelling by using the Present Continuous Tense via showing PPT and pictures. 3) Emotion, attitudes and value(情感、态度和价值) This report actually touches one of the most important festivals in China---Dragon Boat Festival. By reading this passage, students can get familiar with the social customs and manners in this festival like making zongzi, eating zongzi and holding dragon boat races. Thus, it broadens students’ knowledge about Chinese culture. What’s more, by illustrating the true meaning of “there is no place like home”, it also helps students to have a brand new idea and cognition about the meaning of motherland and home.

导入新课Step 1 Greetings To calm students down and know each other better. Greeting and self-introduction.
讲授新课Step 2 Revision To review the basic structure of the Present Continuous Tense and to arise students’ interests. (1)Explain the rules for challenge. (2) Show the students a video. (3) After playing the video, T asks students to answer the question “What are they doing?”. The group that can answer the questions right can get 1 point. (1) Respond to the teacher’s questions. (2) Watch the video and answer the questions.
Step 3 Lead in Learn new words and expressions and finish word puzzle. (1) Show pictures about the new words on PPT and also present the spelling, phonetic symbols and other usages of the news words and expressions. (2) Give students 2 mins to finish the word puzzle. (3) Check the answers of the word puzzle. (1) Guess the word of each picture represented and read after the teacher. (2) Fill in the word puzzle. (3) Check the answers of the word puzzle.
Step 4 Listen and Choose Get familiar with reading and grasp the main idea of the report. (1) Play the recoding of the report and then ask students to choose the best title for the report after listening. (2) Explain why the title “The story about Zhu Hui” is the best answer. Listen carefully and choose the best title.
Step 5 Fast reading Know more about the details of the report and understand the structure of it. (1) Ask students to go over the passage quickly in 3 mins and then find out the people in Zhu Hui’s own family and host family. (2) Explain the structure of the report. (3) Ask some students to answer the questions and then check the answers (The group can get 2 points if it gets the right answers). (1) Read the report quickly. (2) Discuss with other group members about the answers. (3) Check the answers.
Step 6 Detailed reading To help students to understand the passage further. (1) Explain the rules of the game. (2) Give students 2 mins to discuss the answers of questions that will encounter when playing the game. (3) Show and explain the answers. (1) Discuss the questions with other group mates. (2) Answer and questions and gain relevant points.
Step 7 Retelling To improve students’ ability in retelling and to deepen students’ understanding of the passage. Show some pictures and key words of the passage to help students to retell the passage. Retell the story.
Step 8 Group Work To help students to form a brand new idea about home and improve their oral English. (1) Ask students “What’s your favorite sentence in the passage?” . (2) Share T’s thoughts with the students. Answer the question and explain the reasons.
Step 9 Summary To help students to know the period better. Summarize what’ve learned in this period. Listen carefully.
Step 10 Homework To help students to consolidate what’ve learned during the class. (1) Talk about other traditional festivals you know with the partner after class. (2) Retell the story according to the guidance material after class. (1) Copy homework. (2) Remember what they have to do after class.
课堂小结 Analysis of the students(学生分析) One of the most important teaching goals of Unit 6 is the usage of Present Continuous Tense. Generally, the students of Grade Seven, who have started to learn English since primary school, have already known the basic structure of this tense, which is subject + be(am/is/are)+v.-ing. However, they will still make some mistakes easily during the process of reading, speaking and writing. For the students from Xianzi Middle School, their learning qualities can vary from each other considerably. Even so, every one of them is active and willing to try everything during the whole study. In view of these facts, the teachers shall encourage them to speak English bravely and in the mean time. The teachers should help them strengthen skills in reading, speaking and writing concerning about the Present Continuous Tense. 2. Analysis of the Teaching Material(教材分析) As stated in the previous part, the most important goal in this unit is to talk about daily activities by using the Present Continuous Tense. When it comes to the reading part of Section B in this unit, it mainly talks about what people are doing at the same moment in two different countries that belong to different time zones. By bring in the concept of time differences and comparing people’s different activities in different place at the same time, the reading not only facilitates students to master the usage about the Present Continuous Tense further, but also deepens their understanding towards Dragon Boat Festival, a very traditional festival in China.
