As a student, I can tell you that there is nothing better than being praised by my teacher before my classmates.
The other day, I was praised by my teacher because I recited all the words of Unit 1. He said I memorized all the words
even though I was not good at English, adding that I set a good example to all of the classmates. Hearing what he said, I was
more than glad with my heart beating wildly.
I came to realize only if we put our heart into our lessons could we make great progress. Meanwhile, I am determined
to study harder rather than waste precious time on playing video games or chatting online.
From my own experience, I learn that a few words of praise can make great difference.

The expression “Go for it!” is a way of encouraging someone to try something. “Go for it!” means you
should not worry about failure or be too careful. You should take a chance, be brave, and act firmly.
“Go for it!” gets name from football. Not football as it is played in most countries such as England, Egypt or
Japan, but the kind of football played in the United States and Canada.
One of the most exciting times in football comes when a team has failed, after three attempts, to move the
ball forward ten yards. The team must make a critical decision.
The conservative (保守) choice is to kick the ball and accept temporary defeat in order to gain a good
position for your team the next time it gets the ball. The more exciting choice, however, is to try a fourth and
final time to gain the remaining yards needed.
People present are certain to shout their advice. Some will shout: “Kick the ball!” But others will encourage
the team to take a chance. “Go for it!” they will scream.
In the nineteen eighties, people began using this expression in many kinds of situations to encourage
someone to act bravely.
There is no guarantee (保证) that the action you “go for it” will succeed. But that is the chance you take
when you decide to go for it. You put your fears behind. You choose courage over safety. You hold your

Against the supposition than forest fires in Alaska, Canada and Siberia warm the climate, scientists have
discovered that cooling may occur in areas where burnt trees allow more snow to mirror more sunlight into
space.
This finding suggests that taking steps to prevent northern forest to limit the release of greenhouse gases
may warm the climate in northern regions. Usually large fires destroyed forests in these areas over the past
decade. Scientists predict that with climate warming, fires may occur more frequently over next several
centuries as result of a longer fire season. Sunlight taken in by the earth tends to cause warming, while heat
mirrored back into space tends to cause cooling.
This is the first study to analyze all aspects of how northern fires influence climate. Earlier studies by other
scientists have suggested that fire in northern regions speed up climate warming because greenhouse gases
from burning trees and plants are released into the atmosphere and thus trap heat.
Scientists found that right after the fire, large amounts of greenhouse gases entered the atmosphere and
caused warming. Ozone(臭氧)levels increased, and ash from the fire fell on far?off sea ice, darkening the
surface and causing more radiation from the sun to be taken in. The following spring, however, the land
within the area of the fire was brighter than before the fire, because fewer trees covered the ground. Snow on
the ground mirrored more sunlight back into space, leading to cooling.
“We need to find out all possible ways to reduce the growth of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.”
Scientists tracked the change in amount of radiation entering and leaving the climate system as a result of
the fire, and found a measurement closely related to the global air temperature. Typically, fire in northern
regions occurs in the same area every 80 to 150 years. Scientists, however, found that when fire occurs more
高一英语试题卷 第 6页 (共 10页)
frequently, more radiation is lost from the earth and cooling results. Specifically, they determined when fire
returns 20 years earlier than predicated, 0.5 watts per square meter of area burned are soaked_up by the earth
from greenhouse gases, but 0.9 watts per square meter will be sent back into space. The net effect is cooling.
Watts are used to measure the rate at which energy is gained or lost from the earth.
28.According to the new findings, taking steps to prevent northern forest fires may ________.
A.result in a warming climate
B.cause the forest fires to occur more frequently
C.lead to a longer fire season
D.protect the forests and the environment there
29.The following are all the immediate effects after a forest fire EXCEPT________.
A.large amounts of greenhouse gases enter the atmosphere
B.the levels of ozone which is a type of oxygen increase
C.snow on the ground mirrors more sunlight back into space
D.ashes from the fire fall on the ice surface and take in more radiation from the sun
30.Earlier studies about northern forest fires ________.
A.analyze all aspects of how northern fires influence climate
B.indicate that forest fires will pollute the atmosphere
C.suggest that people should take measures to protect environment
D.suggest that the fires will speed up climate warming

We’re trying to decide where to go on our vacation this summer. We usually go to the Lake Arrowhead for
a few weeks, but we’d like to go somewhere else this year. We’re tired of doing the same thing summer after
summer. Some friends of ours suggested that we go to Hawaii. That would be wonderful! I’m sure we’d
enjoy a trip like that, but of course____________In the first place, it would be rather expensive, and in the
second place, there wouldn’t be enough time. If we’re lucky enough to save some money between now and
next summer, and if I’m lucky enough to get four weeks of vacation instead of two weeks, maybe we can go
to Hawaii next year. As a matter of fact, if we wanted to plan a trip like that, it might be advisable to stay
home this summer and not go any place. That’s one way we could begin to save some money for next year’s
trip. Also, if we were to stay here, I could offer to work instead of taking two weeks off; then maybe my
boss would suggest that I be given four weeks’ vacation next summer instead of two weeks.

When I first heard about the Belt and Road Initiative (“一带一路”倡议). I thought about something simple and
straightforward — like a fragrant cup of tea.
For centuries, tea has brought 61(culture), communities, and people closer together. In the past centuries, tea
65(connect) economies through trade and investment. The Belt and Road Initiative holds a similar promise, 63is about
connecting cultures, communities, economies, and people. It is about awaking ancient trade routes and 64(build) new ones.
It is also about adding new economic flavors by creating infrastructure (基础建设) projects based on 21st century expertise
and standards. Delivering on this promise is not an easy task, 65doing so could bring great benefits.
First, high?quality infrastructure could help stimulate potential global 66 (grow), and raise the incomes of millions of
people. As the Chinese proverb67 (go), “To become rich, one must first build roads.” A second benefit is greater
inclusiveness. Think of68(improve) roads in rural areas that can boost productivity and access to health services. By sharing

the benefits of investment and knowledge more broadly, improvement will be 69(strong) and more inclusive. A third
benefit is stronger economic cooperation. This would help boost global trade, investment, and financial cooperation, making
70 easier to share the benefits of growth more widely. All this is good for consumers, good for productivity, and good for
poverty reduction.

As it is known to us, fewer and fewer students do sports regularly, what makes them weak and easily
tired.
There are many reasons about this. First of all, some of the students complain that they have too many
homework, result in less time to take exercise. Beside, some of them think that it is very difficult for them to
keep doing exercise, because it is very hard thing.
For lack of physical activities, many students were in poor health. I suggest that our school must take
measures to encourage more students to take part in sports. For us students, no matter what busy we are, it is
necessary to spare some time to do exercise.
