Pre-task preparations
Activity 1
Show the students masks of different animals. Put on the masks and animals.
e.g., T: Moo…Moo… I’m a cow.
Tell the class that they are going to learn how to make a mask.
Activity 2
Put some pictures of the farm animals on the blackboard. Then introduce the names of the farm animals to the students.
e.g., T: Look! Here’s the farm. We can see many farm animals. It’s a pig. It goes “Oink…Oink…” It’s a duck. It goes “Quack…Quack…”
While-task procedures
Activity 1
Demonstrate the procedure for making a mask step by step. Encourage the students to repeat after you and follow your actions.
e.g.,
T: Draw. Cut. Stick.
Ss: Draw. Cut. Stick.
Activity 2
Have the students practise the words chick, pig, duck and cow, with the help of pictures, toys or your body language.
e.g.,
T: (Points to the toy chick) Chick. I see a chick.
Ss: Chick. I see a chick.
Activity 3
Stick all the pictures on the blackboard. Read the words out and ask the students to repeat after you. Then take one of the pictures away. Have the students find out which one is missing.
e.g.,
T: (Sticks the pictures of the chick, duck, cow, pig on the blackboard, and then takes away the picture of the cow) What’s missing?
Ss: Cow.
T: (Shows the picture of the cow) Yes, it’s a cow. Moo…Moo…
Ss: It’s a cow. Moo…Moo…
