As we know, there are differences between Western culture and Chinese culture. 16 Let's look at some words about animals and plants. Most expressions in Chinese about the dog, for example, "a homeless dog" “a mad dog" “a running dog" and “a dog catching a mouse", have bad meanings. 17 In English, people use the dog to describe good actions. For example, "you are a lucky dog" means you are a lucky person. And "every dog has its day" means each person has good luck sometimes. To describe a person's serious illness, they say "sick as a dog". The word "dog-tired" means very tired. 18 But in Western culture, "cat" is often used to describe a woman who is unkind. There are many other examples of how "cat is used differently as well.

If you have a brother or a sister, you already know you are different from each other. You live together in the same house and have the same parents. 16 Why is this? One possible reason is the way your parents treat you.
First-born children receive all the attention from their parents. Most families have much more
photos of a first-born than any other child. Parents give them more responsibility (责任). 17 As a result, first-borns are often responsible, hard-working and serious. They often want to do well at school and work. 18 For example, Gorge Bush, George Washington, and Lyndon Baines Johnson are all first-born.
When a second child arrives, parents are more relaxed. The second child is allowed to be more independent. But he also has to compete with the first-born for the parents' attention and love. These children often choose different sports and hobbies to show independence. 19 They are often adventurous (爱冒险的), fun-loving, and outgoing, but can be jealous (好嫉妒的) and get angry easily.
The youngest child is the happiest. He has fewer responsibilities and more freedom. These children do not feel pressure to do well at school and work, but have to be creative to get their family's attention. 20 So, many famous talk-show hosts and comedians were born last.

Body language is one of the most powerful means of communication. 1 6 People around the world show all kinds of feelings, wishes and attitudes that they might never speak aloud. The most universal facial expression is the smile. People usually smile to show happiness and make people feel comfortable. But sometimes it does not always mean that we are truly happy, however. Smiles around the world can be false, hiding other feelings like anger, fear or worry. 17 However, the general purpose of smiling is to show good feelings. From the time we are babies, we show unhappiness or anger by frowning. 18 Making a fist and shaking it almost always means that someone is angry and threatening another person.
There are many ways around the world to a show agreement, but nodding the head up and down is used for agreement almost worldwide. 19
Being respectful to people is based on each culture, but in general it is probably not a good idea to give a hug to a boss or teacher. In almost every culture, it is not usually good to stand too close to someone of a higher position. 20
With so many cultural differences between people, it is great to have some similarities in body language. We can often be wrong about each other, so it is an amazing thing that we understand each other as well as we do!

One morning, a blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held a sign which said, "I am blind. Please help me.” 16
A man was walking by. He took out a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words on it. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by could see the new words. Soon the hat began to fill up. 1 7
That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized(认出)his footsteps and ask," 18 What did you write?"
The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said, but in a different way.”
What he had written was, "Today is a beautiful day, but I can't see it. "
Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?
19 But the first sign simply told people to help by putting some money in the hat. The second sign told people that they were able to enjoy the beauty of the day, but the boy could not enjoy it because he was blind.
The first sign simply said the boy was blind, while the second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind.
20
The first is: Treasure (珍惜) what you have. Someone else has less. Try your best to help those who need your help.
The second is: Be creative. Think differently. There is always a better way.

Success does not belong to a select group of individuals(个人). Success belongs to those who are willing to go after it and try their best to do what they have to do. 1 6
Desire. Desire is the strong wish to achieve a goal. 17 Before you can run with desire, your goal must be plain, clear, and it must also be exciting.
Show up. 18 You can't have a best seller, if you have never written a book. You can't get your dream job, if you're afraid to turn in an application. Showing up doesn't guarantee(保证)success, but if you don't show up, you won't succeed.
Fail. Unless you're willing to have a try, fail unhappily, and have another try, success won't happen. To have success you have to do things the right way, but often the only way to do something right is to first fail at it. As Thomas J. Watson said, a simple formula(公式)for success is to double your rate of failure(失败). 19
Work Harder. Success is not about doing what the common person can't do.
20 And on a deeper level, it's about creating habits that the common person is unwilling to create. It's the habit of doing things with excellence that causes success.
Enjoy the Journey. Success is a journey, not a destination (终点 ). Success is not a certain car or a certain house or a certain happy marriage. Success is the enjoyment of the journey. You have to enjoy the journey.
A. Here are some useful practical ways for you if you want to be a success.
B. It's about doing what the common person is unwilling to do.
