I’ve been working in a school for more than twenty years. Many parents often ask me, “How can you teach your child good study skills? How can he or she get the homework done as quickly as possible?” Here are some tips:
1. If the child is as young as nine or ten years old, ask him or her to prepare a small notebook to write down the homework given by his or her teachers. By developing this habit, he or she will learn to be much more responsible(负责的).
2. Find a good place to study. This should be a quiet place that is free from everything but studying things. No games, radios, or televisions. Once you have decided on a place to study, this should be the only place where your child does his or her homework and studies. There should also be a very specific time for homework to be done. Usually, homework should be done as soon as the child gets home from school. This also goes for the kids who take part in after?school activities. Of course, it is a good idea to allow the child to have a healthy snack before the work begins.
3. Also remember that it is the child’s duty to do his or her homework. Some children give up easily and go to Mom and Dad for help when they have a problem. Try to let them solve it first. By doing this, they will get a sense of success from overcoming problems. In this way, we help them to help themselves.
21. Asking the kids to keep a notebook to remember their homework will make them ______.
A. remember more B. learn more
C. more responsible D. more interested in studying
22. The place where the children study must ______.
A. be free from everything B. have a TV set and a computer
C. be quiet and good for studying D. be big, clean and tidy
23. What does the underlined word “overcoming” mean in the passage?
A. 忘记 B. 离开 C. 意识到 D. 克服
24. The children should ______ when they have trouble with their homework.
A. ask their parents for help B. try to solve the problems by themselves
C. wait for their teachers’ help D. put it away and have a snack
25. This passage is written ______.
A. for parents to help their children study well
B. for the children who want to improve their study
C. for teachers to teach their students
D. for housewives to make their kids happy

William Blake described the eyes as the “windows of the soul”. Our eyes are the windows through which we see the world around us. Either way, there’s no question that we place great value on our eyes and our eyesight. Surveys have shown that of the five senses, sight is the one that people fear losing the most.
Thinking about the important function of our eyes, we should give them the best care possibly, but sometimes we get too busy or forget to do a few simple things that can keep our eyes healthy.
Protecting your eyes starts with the food on your plate. Remember when you were a kid and your mom told you that carrots would improve your eyesight. Well, she might be right. Proper food will keep your eyes strong and healthy.
Give up your daily habits that could seriously injure your eyes. Always wear sunglasses in a sunny day to protect your eyes from Ultraviolet ray(紫外线). Rest your eyes every 20 minutes from the computer screen by looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds. At least every 2 hours, get up and take a 15?minute break when working at a computer.
Make sure your eyes do not get injured in the first place. You should try to prevent eye injuries whether you’re playing sports or doing housework. You should also know when to wear safety glasses and what kinds will work best for you.
Last but not least, get your eyes examined regularly. Eye exams can help find some eye diseases. It’s important to find these diseases early on, when they’re easier to treat.
21. According to a survey, people fear losing______ most.
A. their sights B. their hearings C. their smells D. their tastes
22. The underlined word “function” might mean “______” in Chinese.
A.差异 B. 功能 C. 优势 D. 问题
23. ______is NOT a good way to protect your eyes.

B. is helpful for the treatment
C. provides you the best care of your eyes
D. wastes much of your money
25. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Give Your Eyes Some Rest B. Good Habits Bring Health
