一般过去时表示过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的状态，常和表示过去的时间状语连用，如: yesterday, last weekend, last Sunday等。也表示过去经常或反复发生的动作，常和often, always等表示频度的时间状语连用。例如:
I visited my grandparents last weekend.
I always went swimming in summer.

一般过去时常见动词的变化：
be动词：is，am过去式是was，are的过去式是were。
do和does的过去式是did。
1.一般在动词原形末尾加ed，例如：look-looked
2.词尾是e的动词加d，例如：live-lived
3.末尾只有一个辅音字母的重度闭音节，先双写这个辅音字母，再加ed。
例如：stop-stopped
4.结尾是“辅音字母+y”的动词，变“y”为“i”, 再加ed，例如：study-studied。
