M4U1 Reading Advertisements (Period1)
Teaching plan

Teaching Objectives:
1. Students must master how to read expository writing.
2. Students can know about the differences and similarities between commercial ads and PSAs.
3. Most of the students can draw some attractive pictures, think of some clever words and describe their designs.
4. Students can be aware of the tricks in commercial ads and the benefits in PSAs. It is hoped that they must use their intelligence and not be a slave to ads after learning this lesson.

Teaching important points:
1. Students must master the reading strategy: reading expository writing.
2. Students are expected to learn some basic information about advertising, including the two basic types of ads-commercial ads and PSAs.

Teaching difficult points:
1. In regard to commercial ads and PSAs, students can state their opinions and give supporting reasons.
2. Students will be able to draw some pictures and think of or create some slogans.
3. Students can use their own words to describe their designs.

Teaching aids:
Multimedia and a blackboard

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Preparation
1. Let students enjoy a video and recall their memories about ads.
2.Talk about the advertisement and lead the students to the two key words ‘attractive’ and ‘clever’.

Step 2 Presentation
1. Reading strategy: Let students read the reading strategy and talk about the format of expository writing.
2. Skimming: Taking Advertisements for example, let students know about the structure of the passage.
