Liverpool, my hometown, is a special city. It is so unique that in 2004 it became a World Heritage Site.
I recently returned to my home city and my first stop was at a museum on the River Mersey. Blanketed in mist(薄雾),Victorian architecture rose from the banks of the river, responded to the sounds of sea-birds, and appeared unbelievably charming. When I headed toward the centre, I found myself surrounded by buildings that mirror the best palaces of Europe. It is not hard to imagine why, on first seeing the city, most visitors would be overpowered by the beauty of the noble buildings, which are solid signs of Liverpool’s history.
As if to stress its cultural role, Liverpool has more museums and galleries than most cities in Britain. At Walker Art Gallery, I was told that it has the best collections of Victorian paintings in the world, and is the home of modern art in the north of England. However, culture is more than galleries. Liverpool offers many music events. As Britain’s No. 1 music city, it has the biggest city music festival in Europe, and its musicians are famous all over the world. Liverpool is also well-known for its football and other sports events. Every year, the Mersey River Festival attracts thousands of visitors, making the city a place of wonder.
As you would expect from such a city, there are restaurants serving food from around the world. When my trip was about to complete, I chose to rest my legs in Liverpool’s famous Philharmonic pub. It is a monument to perfection, and a heritage attraction itself.
Being a World Heritage Site, my home city is certainly a place of “outstanding universal value”. It is a treasure house with plenty of secrets for the world to explore.

A. its charming banks B. its famous museums
C. its wonderful palaces D. its attractive buildings

A. Liverpool is a well-known city for its restaurants
B. Liverpool is an impressive place full of attraction
C. a pub is a wonderful place for visitors to relax themselves
D. a pub is a perfect choice for visitors to complete their journey
C.
Bright red post boxes, the Queen and queuing(排队) — what do they all have in common? They are all important parts of British life. At least I thought so.
However, the ability to queue for long periods of time, once believed to be a traditional characteristic of the British, is no longer tolerated(忍受)by people in the UK, according to a study done by British bank Barclays.
Once upon a time, queuing was seen as normal. During World War Ⅱ,everyone had to queue up to receive their daily supply of foods. In fact, if you didn't stand up and wait in line with all the others, it was seen as uncivilized (不文明的).
The famous English double?decker(双层)buses, with only one entrance, might also help explain why queuing was seen as part of British life. Almost always, there is a queue to get in.
But perhaps the British are tired of being pushed past by the Spanish, the Italian or the Frenc as they queue up to get a table at a restaurant. The people of these other European
countries have more than one entrance to their buses, which explains their more relaxed attitude to the queue.
Two minutes is now the longest time most British people are prepared to stand and wait. But could it be that the Internet, which allows us to carry out tasks quickly, is the main reason why British people are no longer prepared to queue?
“Used to buying without delay, customers are even giving up shopping rather than wait their turn,” says Stuart Neal of Barclaycard.“Shoppers are also less likely to queue for long if the buying is of low value.”
Perhaps I will have to replace “queuing” with “impatience” to the British.
28. What can we learn about the tradition of queuing in Britain?
A.It was a product of the slow pace of life.
B.It was considered a symbol of a civilized(文明的) behavior.
C.It was a long time tradition as old as the Queen.
D.It has made the British different from other Europeans.
29.According to the passage, the British gradually stopped queuing because________.
A.they prefer shopping online B.they follow the example of foreigners
C.the Internet has changed their way of life D.British buses have more than one entrance
30.It can be learnt from the text that________.
A.the British get impatient with queuing for long
B.the British have to queue to receive foods
C.the British like to eat in foreign restaurants
D.the British prefer to take double?decker buses
31.The author's main purpose of writing the passage is________.
A.to tell us the influence of the Internet on the British ways of life
B.to talk about the changes in the attitude to queuing in Britain
C.to compare the cultural differences between Britain and other European countries
D.to report his research on the British ways of life
D
BEIJING (News Agency) — Children in China today spend five times more money than their parents did when they were young.
So what are all these children buying? The list is long:iPads, cell phones and jeans are typical items that children “have to” buy.And they will do anything to get them. They ask their parents over and over until they buy them.
But parents also need to take the blame(责备) for spending so much money. They want their children to have the best things. They end up competing with other parents over what their children have.
So it’s no wonder children find it hard to learn the importance of saving money rather than spending it all the time.
And it's hard to save when companies use advertising (打广告)and clever slogans (口号) to encourage young people to buy their products. They even encourage children to keep asking their parents for something until they get it.
Today, you don't even need to have money in order to buy something. Banks give out credit cards and loans (贷款) all the time, so people are saving less and less. We are used to carrying lots of money around. And if you don't have much, you can always borrow some.
But this hasn't always been the case. When our grandparents were young, there was very little money and everyone had to save hard for things they bought. They only bought things they needed, not things they just wanted.
The older generation made the wise expression, “Money_doesn't_grow_on_trees.” This is as true now as it was 50 years ago. They give money a great deal of value. And we all have a lot to learn from them.
32.The text mainly tells us ________.
A.divisions between teenagers and their parents
B.what is popular among children at the moment
C.how to spend money wisely
D.children's high consumption(消费)of products
33.Parents are to blame for children's spending a lot of money because ________.
A.they don't give children positive guidance in consumption
B.their consumption habits set a bad example to children
C.they always give children too much pocket money
D.they offer to buy the latest fashions for their children
34.Which of the following statements is NOT mentioned in the passage?
A.Banks provide credit cards and loans.
B.Advertisements draw people's attention to new products.
C.People's living standard has improved and they can buy what they want.
D.People have more money than in the past and saving is out of date.
35.The saying “Money doesn't grow on trees.” in the last paragraph seems to tell us that __.
A.the older generation understood how to teach children to save
B.in the past, people attached more importance to saving money
C.money has a great deal of value
D.money is not easily earned and people should be careful when we spend it
modern. However, as we entered the new century, the fashion disappeared.
