⑴ 表示抽象的、一般性行为。

⑵ 表示主语的特征、性质或状态,常见的有astonishing,exciting,amusing,confusing, disappointing,boring, encouraging, inspiring, moving,tiring,interesting, surprising等。二、用法归纳The story is very moving. 这个故事很感人。
His behaviour is disappointing. 他的行为令人失望。2.作定语
⑶ 说明被修饰词的性质、特征或用途, 可用“名词+for+动名词”来表达。
a swimming pool(=a pool for swimming)游泳池
a walking stick(= a stick for walking)手杖⑷ 与被修饰词为主动关系,且表示正在进行的动作, 可换成定语从句来表达。
There are about 50 students studying in the classroom. 大约有50个学生在教室里学习。
(=There are about 50 students who are studying in the classroom.)⑸ 有些V-ing形式已经转化成形容词,
常作定语修饰物,表示“令人……的”,
常见的有: exciting,amusing, amazing,astonishing, shocking,puzzling,confusing, disappointing,discouraging,pleasing, striking, boring, tiring, touching,moving, interesting, satisfying,terrifying,frightening等。3.作宾语补足语
动词V-ing形式用作宾语补足语, 与一个名词或代词构成复合结构, 其中宾语是宾语补足语逻辑上的主语。⑹ 常接动词V-ing形式作宾语补足语的动词有感官动词see,notice,watch,hear, listen to, feel, observe,find等。
