一、教学目标
本节课是人教版新目标英语第九单元第四部分的阅读内容,是本单元前三部知识的升华,是单元教学的延续.依据新课标对本节课的要求。通过本节课的教学,一方面使学生掌握课文当中出现的重点词,词组的用法,以及运用本单元的阅读策略来理解课文,尤其是将本单元被动语态融合在极其真实的语境中,有助于学生进一步理解其结构,掌握其用法。但是,作为以介绍阅读策略为主的拓展性阅读,本课时又可以被看成是自成一体,独立成章。另一方面,通过本课学习使学生懂得人类的科学发明创造了丰富的物质文明。培养学生的创造发明的能力和愿望。珍惜时间,努力学习,为祖国的美好明天做出自己应有的贡献.

Step 1. lead-in
  为了给学生争取到更多的语言表达机会,培养了听说技能,调动了学生参加语言学习活动的积极性,采用free talk形式进行warming up 热身活动,以学生熟悉的篮球为话题,为篮球的历史做铺垫,帮助他们形成积极向上的情感及树立学好英语的自信心。
  T: Do you often have sports?
  S: Yes.
  T: Which do you like best ?
  S: Basketball, volleyball, football...
  T: What is Yaoming ?
  S: He is a basketball player.
  T: OK. Thank you .

Step 2.Presentation
1.Ask two easy questions:

②.How much do you know about basketball?

2.Ask students to think about what equipments people need to play basketball, then teach them the new words: basketball court, backboard, metal hoop, net, wooden floor, equipment ”
e.g. First, we need a basketball. (Where do we play it?) We can play on the court. (There are two basketball stands, what are on their tops?) A basket is made up of the metal hoop and net. There is a backboard behind for guiding the ball into the basket.
3.Q: How was basketball played? How can you get the ball into the basket?
After talking freely, get students to learn the target words “divide, aim, shoot, towards” in sentences.
e.g. Players are __divided___into _ two teams_______. They move towards one end of the __court___ while throwing the ball to each other. And the aim is to _get______ the ball into the basket.
