(2019·合肥高三质量检测)A seemingly small gesture at a restaurant outside Houston that wasn’t part of the job description for a Waffle House waitress has now had a big effect on her life.
It happened last weekend, when 18-year-old Evoni Williams was serving an elderly man breakfast. He needed help. So Williams leaned over the table with a fork and a knife and cut up his ham for him. It might have ended there, but a customer named Laura Wolf was struck enough to take a picture and post it online.
“I didn’t know the photo was taken until a couple of hours later,” Williams told the Houston Chronicle. “When I saw it, it’s just something I would do for anybody. I was so busy in here, and I actually took the time to stop and hear what he had to say instead of walking past him.”
It apparently meant something to others too. As of Sunday, more than 130,000 people had reacted to the post and nearly 7,000 have shared it. But the story has extended beyond the Internet. Williams, a recent Texas City High School graduate, was honored at a ceremony, Thursday, with a $ 16,000 scholarship to Texas Southern University. Williams has reportedly been working full-time at the Waffle House to earn money toward school. Texas Southern University has assigned a counselor to help her begin her degree and she is planning to study business management.
Media at the local, national and international level have all picked up on the story. It is a moment among several in recent years, captured in a picture, put online, and capturing the attention of the Internet: like a New York City police officer giving a homeless man a pair of boots, or a restaurant goer whose wife died of cancer anonymously(匿名地) paying for the meal of another cancer patient.

A.Independent and caring.
B.Patient and curious.

D.Energetic and lucky.

A.To prove the power of the media.
B.To advocate helping those in need.

A 解析:推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“Media at the local, national and international level have all picked up on the story. It is a moment among several in recent years, captured in a picture, put online, and capturing the attention of the Internet”可知,此处意在强调媒体有巨大的作用,后面举的例子应是为了说明这一结论,故选A。

A.Wide Web, Colorful Life
B.Small Gesture, Big Effect
C.Little Effort, Big Reward
D.Young Mind, Great Influence

(2019·广西桂林、北海、崇左联合调研)The summer I was ten, my mother decided to bring us to the world of art. My brother and I were not very excited when we realized what our mother meant. What she meant was not that we could take drawing classes or painting classes but that we would have to spend one afternoon a week with her at the Fine Arts Museum. Before each visit to the museum, she made us read about artists and painting styles. It was almost as bad as being in school. Who wants to spend the summer thinking about artists when you could be with your friends at the swimming pool?
First we had to read about ancient Egyptians and their strange ways of painting faces and then go to look at them at the museum. My 12?year?old brother thought this was so funny, but I was not interested. Later we had to learn about artists in the Middle Ages who painted people wearing strange long clothing. We had to look at pictures of fat babies with wings and curly(卷曲的) hair and with no clothes on flying around the edges of paintings. I certainly couldn’t see what was so great about art.
On our last visit to the museum, something happened when I saw a painting by a woman called Mary. In it, a woman was reading to a child. The colors were soft and gentle, and you could tell by the mother’s expression how happy she was just to be with the child. I couldn’t stop looking at this painting! I wanted to see every painting Mary had ever made! It was really worth looking at so many paintings to find a painter who could interest me so much.

(2019·哈师大附中高三期末)Many animals recognize their food because they see it.So do humans. When you see an apple or a piece of chocolate, you know that these are things you can eat.You can also use other senses when you choose your food. You may like it because it smells good or because it tastes good. You may dislike some types of food because they do not look, smell or taste very nice.Different animals use different senses to find and choose their food.A few animals depend on only one of their senses, while most animals use more than one sense.
Although there are many different types of food, some animals spend their lives eating only one type. The giant panda eats only one particular type of bamboo.Other animals eat only one type of food even when given the choice.A kind of white butterfly will stay on the leaves of a cabbage, even though there are plenty of other vegetables in the garden. However, most animals have a more varied diet. The bear eats fruits and fish. The fox eats small animals, birds and fruits. The diet of these animals will be different depending on the season.
Humans have a very varied diet.We often eat food because we like it and not because it is good for us.In countries such as France and Britain, people eat foods with too much sugar. This makes them overweight, which is bad for their health .Eating too much red meat and animal products, such as butter, can also be bad for health.Choosing the right food, therefore, has become an area of study in modern life.

七选五
(2019·南昌高三质量检测)Everyone has someone who’s wronged them in one way or another. Yet forgiveness is something you can achieve as long as you take the following steps.
Decide you want to choose forgiveness.
The first step toward achieving forgiveness is to decide it’s something you actually want to do, not something someone has pressured you into trying. 1.________ Also forgiveness doesn’t mean excusing or forgetting an injustice, or returning to a relationship that’s harmful.
2.________
It’s kind of a checklist: How are you doing in terms of your anger? How have you been denying it? Are you angrier than you thought you would be? 3.________ Tiredness is the most common physical complaint, as is a pessimistic worldview—believing no one can be trusted or that everyone is only out for themselves. Once you look at those effects, the question becomes: Do you want to heal?
Commit to forgiveness.
Once you have completed stage two and seen how the effects of your anger have made you unhappy, there’s a tendency to give this a try. In this stage, it’s important to commit yourself to doing no harm toward the person you’re trying to forgive. That doesn’t mean being good to them. 4.________
Consider the other person’s wounds.
The goal is to finally feel sympathy for the other person, but don’t start there. 5.________ How was that person hurt in life? How were they treated unjustly? Were they so wounded that they wounded you? You don’t do this to excuse their actions, but to see a scared person, maybe a confused person, someone who is not always right and all-powerful.
A.Make a list.
B.Uncover your anger.
C.Instead, think about them in a new way.
D.It just means you don’t do anything negative.
E.People should not be forced into forgiving.
F.What are the physical consequences of your anger?
G.On the contrary, be committed to your own happiness.
【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了达到谅解的四个步骤。
1.E 解析:根据空前的“not something someone has pressured you into trying” 及选项E “People should not be forced into forgiving.”可知答案。pressure sb. into doing与be forced into doing是近义短语。
3.F 解析:根据下文中的“Tiredness is the most common physical complaint”及选项F“What are the physical consequences of your anger?”可知,physical是重复出现的词,F项放在本空中,前后语义也是连贯的,所以选F。
4.D 解析:空前的“That doesn’t mean being good to them.”和选项D“It just means you don’t do anything negative.”语意连贯,故选D项。
5.C 解析:上文提到“The goal is...don’t start there.”,可知本空应该是正确的开始,即用一种新的方式来思考这些人(Instead, think about them in a new way.),空后进一步提示如何去思考。
