Lesson 16 Happy Thanksgiving
本课的教学内容是第三单元的第四课时, 主要涉及的内容是感恩节的庆祝活动, 学生在前面几课中学习了一些重要的节日, 通过对本课的阅读理解, 对感恩节有深层次的了解。谈论在这个节日如何庆祝, 满足学生的好奇心。教师可以在课上展示感恩节活动的场景, 小组讨论, 相互交流, 让学生进行描述。

Leading in 【情景1】
T: Mid-Autumn Day is an important festival in autumn in China, and in western countries, they also have a big festival in autumn. Do you still remember what it is?
Ss: It’s Thanksgiving Day.
T: Yes.
Discuss the following questions:
(1) When is Thanksgiving Day in the U.S.?
(2) Do you know why they celebrate Thanksgiving Day?
(3) How to celebrate Thanksgiving?

1. T: Good morning/afternoon, class. Happy Monday (or the other days of the week)! Is Monday a holiday?
Ss: No.
T: That’s right. That kind of greeting is usually for holidays not for days of week. Can you give me some examples of holiday or event greetings that use the word “Happy” at the beginning?
S1: Happy New Year!/ Happy Birthday!/ Happy Mother’s Day!
T: Very good. And how about Happy Thanksgiving? Can you tell me what Thanksgiving is?
S2: Thanksgiving is a holiday people celebrate in Canada and the U.S. / It is a day to be with their family and friends. /They eat a big meal. /They give thanks for everything they have.
T: These are all great answers. On Thanksgiving Day, they give thanks. I would give thanks for my lovely family.
2. Play the song “Celebrate!” from Lesson 16 (Happy Thanksgiving!). Play it once and ask the students just to listen. Play the audiotape a second time and ask the students to fill in the blanks in Exercise 2.
