本课的教学内容是第三单元的第六课时, 课文内容以李明过生日为话题。课前准备一些生日卡片或物品, 让学生描述如何庆祝生日。通过听、说、读、写的训练培养学生的兴趣, 帮助学生树立学习英语的信心, 从而掌握语言基本知识和技能。

Step Ⅰ. Lead in
Leading in 【情景1】
1. T: I’m wearing a new shirt. Do you like it? Does it fit me well? Is it the right size for me? Does it look good on me?
Ask four or five students to respond.
2. Divide the class into groups to discuss the questions in THINK ABOUT IT.
[设计意图] 师生间就涉及的内容展开问答或讨论活动, 能锻炼学生听力和口语表达能力。

1. Ask the Ss some questions:
(1) Whose birthday is in September?
(2) What do you usually get?
(3) How do you usually celebrate your birthday?
2. Discuss the questions in groups. Divide the class into groups of three or four to discuss the questions. After several minutes, let some students come to the front to show their answers.
[设计意图] 用师生问答和小组讨论的形式, 提高学生的学习兴趣, 使他们更高兴地开展讨论活动, 学生能够在“玩中学, 学中玩”, 增强课堂的实践性。
Step Ⅱ. Listening
1. Ask the students to listen to the passage and answer the questions.
(1) What presents did Li Ming get on his birthday?
(2) How old is Li Ming?
【Keys】 (1) A red jacket, a cap and a birthday cake.  (2) He is thirteen.
2. Play the listening material for Exercise 2 in “Let’s Do It!”. Ask the students to complete the dialogue. Check the answers as a class.

Step Ⅲ. Reading
1. Read the text and answer the following questions.
(1) Who brought the presents to Li Ming?
(2) Why did Li Ming love the jacket?
(3) Who came to Li Ming’s birthday party?
(4) What did Li Ming’s mother buy for the party?
(5) What did Li Ming’s family do when it was time for dessert?
【Keys】 (1) The postman.  (2) The jacket is in fashion and red is Li Ming’s favourite colour.  (3) His friends, cousins, grandparents, uncles and aunts.  (4) Some balloons and a delicious birthday cake.  (5) Li Ming’s mother turned off the light, and his father carried the cake into the room. Li Ming blew out the candles.
2. Instruct the students to read Lesson 18 silently and complete Exercise 1. Discuss the answers as a class and correct any false statements.
3. Read the text again. Then ask the students to retell the story in a third person.
4. Explain some language points.

be in fashion意为“正流行的”。既可以作表语, 也可以作后置定语。其反义词组为: out of fashion, 意为“过时的”。

【拓展】think of还表示“认为”, 多用来询问对方的看法。

Step Ⅴ. Come to “Let’s Do It!”
1. Play Word Relay. Divide the class in groups and have them sit in rows. The first student in each row whispers the words (breath, fashion, balloon, deep, candle) to the next student and so on. The last student in each row must come to the blackboard and write the words he/she heard. The row that has the most correct words wins. The rows that do not win have to make sentences using at least three of the words.
[设计意图] 通过游戏的方式充分调动学生主动参与的意识, 增添了学生学习语言的乐趣, 使学生在操练中潜移默化地感知本课的词汇。
Step Ⅵ. Homework
1. Fill in the table in Exercise 4.
