T: (幻灯片展示) Look at a picture of the neighbourhood! What do you think of the neighbourhood?

T: Do you like to live in this new neighbourhood?
S4: Yes. I think it’s convenient. It has many stores. /No, I will get lost in a new place.
T : If we live in a new neighbourhood, we often get lost. What should we do? What do we need?

T: Today we’ll learn Lesson 24 “I Need a Map!”.

S1: People usually use a map when they go to a new place.
S2: When people don’t know their way, they will use a map.
T: Very good. Is it easy to live in a new place?

T: Well done. In this lesson Brian is writing an e-mail home to tell his family about his life in Canada with Jenny. Let’s listen!

T: The map is useful and helpful. It helps us a lot when we are in the neighbourhood. Brian lives in a new neighbourhood in Canada. Let’s listen to the tape and know something about his neighbourhood.
Play the audiotape for Lesson 24 “I Need a Map!” twice. Ask the students to answer the questions in Exercise 1.

1. I have to tell you that I had the flu. ?
flu意为“流感”, 是非正式用语, 指流行性感冒; cold意为“伤风, 感冒”, 一般泛指因着凉而伤风; have the flu意为“患流感”。类似的短语还有: have a cold(得感冒) , have a headache(头疼) , have a cough(咳嗽) 。
How do you know when you have the flu?你如何知道你得了流感?
2. This week, I got to know my neighbourhood. ?
get to know是瞬时性动作, 意为“知道, 了解, 逐渐认识”, 强调从不认识或不了解到认识或了解的渐进过程。在肯定句中不能和表示一段时间的状语连用; know表示“认识”, 是延续性动词。
We have known each other for many years. 我们认识很多年了。
When did you get to know Nick?你是什么时候认识尼克的?
3. Across from the bookstore, there’s a beautiful park. ?
across from意思是“在……对面”, 相当于opposite。
