Lesson 38 Hobbies are fun
本课的教学内容是第七单元的第二课时, 主要涉及介绍不同的兴趣和爱好。课前先让学生自己通过网络等途径了解不同的爱好。课上让学生通过小组合作的形式相互交流, 通过图片向学生展示不同的兴趣爱好, 告诉学生如何用英语进行介绍。

1. Discuss the questions of “THINK ABOUT IT”.
T: What types of hobbies can you think of?

T: Very good. What new hobby do you have?
S1: My new hobby is surfing the Internet. I like it because it’s fun and interesting.
2. Discuss “Dig In”.
T: Hobbies are an important part of a person’s life. Hobbies are fun and they can help you develop some useful skills.
Read and discuss each saying. Then discuss similar sayings in Chinese.
T: Do you know any similar sayings in Chinese?

not only…but also…表示“不但……而且……”, 用于连接两个并列的成分, 着重强调后者, 其中的also有时可以省略。
Not only Mr. Lin but also his son joined the Party two years ago. 林先生和他的儿子在两年前都入了党。
【拓展】 not only…but also…作主语时, 谓语动词要根据but also后的成分决定单复数形式(就近原则)。
Not only the teacher but also the students were against the plan. 不仅那位老师, 还有学生们都反对该项计划。
2. A hobby can help build your confidence and make your life more colourful. ?
confidence为名词, 表示“信心”, 常用结构: build one’s confidence意为“树立某人的信心”, have confidence in意为“对……有信心”。
He is always full of confidence in everything. 他总是对每一件事都充满信心。
If you want to succeed, you must build your confidence from the beginning. 如果你想要成功, 你必须从一开始就树立信心。
3. There are many different types of hobbies. ?
many different types of…许多不同种的……, types也可以换成sorts或kinds。
4. Some people like to collect things such as stamps, toy cars and postcards. ?
such as和for example都有“例如”的意思, such as表示“列举”, for example表示“举例说明”。
Boys such as John and James are very friendly. 像约翰和詹姆斯这样的男孩都很友好。
For example, air is invisible. 例如, 空气是看不见的。
5. People usually take up their first hobby when they are kids, but hobbies are fun for all. ?
take up在此意为“开始从事;学着做;开始做”。 此外, take up还可表示“占据”, 既可以指时间上的“占据”, 也可以指空间上的“占据”。
Take up a new topic. 开始一个新的话题。
The big clock takes up too much room. 这个大钟占太多的地方。
6. It’s never too late to learn something new. ?
◆“It’s never too +adj. +to do sth. ”意为“做某事永远都不太……”, It为形式主语, 真正的主语是动词不定式短语。too…to…意为“太……而不能……”, 本身有否定的意味。
We are never too old to learn. 活到老, 学到老。
◆something new一些新的事物, new作something的定语, 形容词修饰不定代词时, 常放在不定代词的后面。
