Teaching objectives:
By the end of the class, students will be able to
1. have a good understanding of some important language points.
2. experience Wendy’s feelings from what Wendy does on Halloween.
3. apply what has been learned to writing an article about a special festival.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in and presentation
1. Talk about the time of Halloween.
1) Show a calendar of October. Students talk about the dates, the days of some festivals to help them review the use of prepositions of time.
2) Students fill in blanks with the prepositions of time.
2. Talk about Wendy’s feelings about Halloween.
3. Students read the letter and answer a question: Why does Wendy think it is really a special day?
Step 2 Presentation
1. Students read the letter again and talk about what Wendy does on Halloween.
2. Students look and say. They describe pictures with the phrase “dress up”.
3. Students work in pairs to ask and answer. They talk about pictures by using the verb “wear”.
4. Students play a game called “act and guess”.
5. Students make sentences with the phrases “have fun doing sth.” and “thank sb. for doing sth.”
6. Students fill in blanks with the help of some pictures in order to review key phrases they have learned today.
7. Students read the letter. Ask them to pay attention to the underlined and circled phrases.
Step 3 Group work
1. Students have a discussion: In your opinion, what festival is a special festival? Why?
2. Students discuss in a group and share their ideas with group members.
3. Some students share their ideas with the whole class.
Step 4 Writing
Students write an article: A special festival.
Step 5 Homework
Search the Internet to find out more information about your favourite festival. Share it with your classmates in the next class.

Children’s Day is on June 1. How do we celebrate it? Students in my class dress up and wear masks as Tong Monk, Monkey King, Pigsy and Sha Monk. Some classmates paint their faces.
When they meet monsters on the way to the West, Monkey King beats and plays tricks on monsters. Sometimes, they knock on people’s doors and ask for food. Some kind people give them nice food and drinks as a treat.
They play very well and we are very happy. It is really a special day!
