GrammarRevise the Past Participle as the Adverbial
1.过去分词(短语)做状语可表示时间(time)、
地点(place)、原因(reason)、条件(condition)、
让步(concession)、方式(manner)和伴随
(accompany)等意义。
2.这种过去分词(短语)作状语相当于一个时间、
地点、原因、条件、让步等状语从句。
eg: Defeated, he was still a popular boxer.
=Although he was defeated, he was still a
popular boxer.(虽然他被打败了,但他依然是
一个受欢迎的拳击手)
、3.若过去分词(短语)作状语, 句子的主语(subject)与分词(participle)所表示的动作构成动宾关系(verb-object relationship), 即是该分词动作的承受者(recipient)。
eg: Defeated, he was still a popular boxer. (虽然他被打败了,但他依然是一个受欢迎的拳击手)
4. 过去分词(短语)作状语时, 也可在其前面加上连词 (conjunction),如:when/ if/once/ unless等, 以便明确(define)作何种状语/哪种状语被使用。
eg: Defeated, he was still a popular boxer.
= Although defeated,he was still a popular
boxer.(虽然被打败了,但他依然是一个受欢迎的拳击手)
