(2019·惠州高三第一次调研考试)Travel can be fun, but when you have to move with a disability, getting from point A to point B can become frustrating.Airlines know this and do their part to make air travel as comfortable as they can for every passenger.
Here are some tips and information on what major airlines do for travelers who need extra support when flying.
United
When flying with United, call the airline’s disability desk (1?800?228?2744) 48 hours in advance of travel if you’ll be traveling with an assistive device so they can ensure your device can be used in flight.Any special needs you have should be mentioned when you make your reservation so the airline staff can do their best to help you. This includes the need for assistance in getting to your gate, boarding, getting to your seat, deplaning or connecting.
Delta
Depending on the type and age of the aircraft, accessible features of Delta’s aircraft include movable armrests of seats, wheelchair space, on?board wheelchairs and, on larger airplanes, wheelchair?accessible washrooms. Depending on the aircraft, they also provide seats with a movable aisle armrest for passengers needing to transfer from a boarding wheelchair to their own seat more easily.
US Airways
When traveling with US Airways, if you have a mobility disability and need special seating, call 800?428?4322 at least 24 hours before your scheduled departure to ensure your needs are met. Besides seats with movable armrests, the airline also provides seats with more legroom for passengers with an immobilized leg. The airline can also provide an on?board wheelchair but let them know 48 hours in advance if you need one.
Southwest
If you’re flying with Southwest and you need a wheelchair at the airport, or need other special assistance, it’s best to inform the airline in advance, or as soon as you arrive at the airport so your requests can be fulfilled as quickly as possible. On each aircraft, a small wheelchair that can fit down the aircraft aisle is available at every gate and can be used if you need help for getting into your seat.

(2019·成都第一次诊断)Food blogs, celebrities, and nutritionists all advocate the benefits of eating organic(有机的) fruits and vegetables. But a new study published in Science Advances paints a more complex picture. While organic produce is likely slightly healthier to eat and, in some ways, more sustainable to grow, there are also downsides.
Organic fruits and vegetables typically cost more than conventional ones. To get a certificate as organic, farmers must meet specific criteria, including growing produce without the use of genetic engineering and chemical inputs. Without these methods, the growing process typically requires more labor, time, and money, a cost that is passed down to consumers.
It’s true that in many ways, organic farming is more sustainable than conventional farming. But when it comes to environmental concerns such as greenhouse gas output and water loss, the comparison gets complex. Organic farms produce less greenhouse gas output per acre. However, because they are barred from using genetic engineering, pesticides(杀虫剂), and other methods that increase efficiency(效率), organic farms also produce an estimated 19% to 25% less yield than conventional farms. While there isn’t a whole lot of research on the topic, the few studies that do exist suggest greenhouse gas output and water loss might actually be higher on organic farms, on a per unit basis, says study author Verena Seufert.
In addition, while organic produce is likely more nutritious than conventional fruits and vegetables, there’s not a lot of evidence to support the claim that these often slight differences influence consumer health. The same is true for the pesticide remainder. In developed countries, where pesticide use is tightly regulated, there’s no scientific consensus on how these often slight differences influence human health.
Still, Seufert stresses that if you can afford to eat organic produce, you should do so. Organic farms provide safer work environments for workers, plus they support great biodiversity. The real takeaway from her study is not that organic produce is bad but that the practice needs more studies to increase the yield without lowering sustainability.
But if you can’t afford to buy organic produce, don’t stress too much, particularly from a nutritional perspective.
8.What does the underlined word “downsides” in Paragraph 1 most probably mean?
A.Dangers. B.Drawbacks.
C.Benefits. D.Differences.
根据第一段最后一句“While organic produce is likely slightly healthier to eat and, in some ways, more sustainable to grow, there are also downsides.”
9.Which key factor makes it hard to compare organic farming with conventional farming when it comes to environmental concerns?
A.The yield. B.The price.
C.The water loss. D.The labor.
10.Which of the following will the author most probably agree with?
A.Farmers’ work environment should be improved.
B.Organic produce should be made more efficiently.
C.It isn’t wise for consumers to buy organic products.
D.The pesticide remainder do no harm to people’s health.
11.In the author’s opinion, why should we support organic produce?
A.It’s environmentally friendly.
B.It’s more nutritious.
C.It helps keep the variety of plants.
D.It’s safer for consumers.
根据第五段第二句“Organic farms provide safer work environments for workers, plus they support great biodiversity.”

Parents usually teach their children how to cross the street safely, by looking both ways for cars. But do they also teach them to put away their cell phones?
The city of Honolulu, Hawaii wants everyone to learn that lesson. Texting while crossing the street will soon be banned in the city. Beginning on October 24, you could be fined from $15 to $99 if you step onto a Honolulu street while looking at your phone. Honolulu is the first major U.S. city to ban what is called “distracted walking”. It recently passed a law in a seven?to?two vote. The law says:“No pedestrian shall cross a street or highway while viewing a mobile electronic device(装置).”In other words, do not look at a screen when you cross the street or you could be fined.
The law’s creators hope it will lower the number of people hit and killed by cars in the city. Mayor Kirk Caldwell told Reuters news agency, “We hold the unfortunate distinction of being a major city with more pedestrians being hit in crosswalks, particularly our seniors, than that of almost any other cities in the country.”
The law includes all electronic devices with screens: cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, digital cameras and laptop computers. The law does permit an exception. Pedestrians may use such devices in the street to call emergency services and rescue workers, such as firefighters and police officers.
Pedestrian deaths have been increasing as the use of cell phones rises. The Governors Highway Safety Association, or GHSA, says pedestrian deaths in the United States increased by 25 percent between 2010 and 2015. That trend continued in 2016 with the number of pedestrian deaths rising to almost 6,000, 11% higher than that in 2015.
Other U.S. cities may follow Honolulu. The State of Washington was the first to outlaw distracted driving back in 2007. Now, 46 other states as well as D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands, also have laws against texting while driving.

play an important role in...
Science Daily。one that I check out every day是主语Another wonderful site的同位语, 且主语和call构成被动关系, 再结合全文的时态, 确定此处用一般现在时的被动语态。

①had改为have。
②for改为at。 be good at为固定搭配, 意为“擅长……”。
③a改为the。
⑥much改为more。
⑦other改为others。
⑨and后加is。 be willing to do sth.

One possible version:
Dear Shelly,
I’d like to invite you to join us in an activity of caring for children with autism, which is to take place at Zhongshan Road next Saturday.Needless to say, there are a number of such special children around us who are incapable of communicating freely with others and need more people to take care of them. That day we will give performances like singing, dancing and playing musical instruments to draw attention to the children. In the meanwhile, some pretty works designed by us students will be displayed for sale. The money collected will go to charity. We should be back around 4 o’clock in the afternoon. If you are able to come with us, please let us know and we’ll wait for you at the school gate at 9 in the morning.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
