Do you know about the Niagara Escarpment(断崖) not far from the Niagara Falls? It’s a long steep slope(陡坡) that runs through the USA and Canada. It became one of the World Biosphere Reserves in 1990. It’s the 12th World Biosphere Reserves in Canada. The government has done a lot to protect this area since then.
Earlier this month, our school went on a hiking trip to this beautiful place. It was a cold, cloudy and windy day, so we wore more to stay warm. We were divided into two groups and didn’t go on the same route. The whole escarpment is 725 km long. But we only covered(走完) 8 km in about four hours.
My favourite part of the trip was the cave (山洞). The cave has many different strange rocks. Some were huge while some were small. We climbed down into the rocks with the help of our teachers. The rocks were steep and slippery (滑的) because they were covered with wet leaves. It was fun and exciting.
Another exciting moment was lunch. After walking 5 km without any rest, we were hungry and tired. When our teacher finally said we could stop to have lunch, we were very excited. We had a picnic by a river.
After all, this trip was a little different from the ones I had experienced. It was more natural with lots of caves and rocks on the way, which made the trip harder. But it was great exercise.
Hiking in a place like this made us closer to nature. What fun we had on the way!
