Dear Kevin,
Knowing that you plan to travel from Chengdu to Xi’an, I’m writing to tell you something about the Xi’an-Chengdu High-Speed Railway.
First built in 2012, the Railway went into operation in December, 2017, with its overall length being approximately 658 kilometers. Via more than 20 cities, Mianyang included, it runs at a speed of up to 250 kilometers per hour, making it only about three and a half hours needed from Chengdu to Xi’an. During the trip, you can not only appreciate fantastic scenery but also taste delicious food. Besides, all kinds of facilities in the train make your trip safe and comfortable. However, it is true that this high-speed railway has the high train fare.
Hope you have a wonderful trip.
Yours,
Li Hua

英语听力录音稿
Text 1
M: Ms. Murphy, my name is Jack. Welcome to New York.
W: Thank you. It’s a pleasure to meet you.
M: Me too, and the flowers are for you.
W: Thank you. They are beautiful.
Text 2
M: I’m sorry I’m late, honey. I had a long meeting at the office.
W: That’s OK. Now we can try that new restaurant nearby.
Text 3
M: Did you listen to the weather report this morning?
W: Yes. I did. It will be fine this afternoon.
M: Good, would you put the sandwiches in the picnic basket? And don’t forget the drinks.
Text 4
M: I hear you are going to drive to London this weekend.
W: Oh, I have changed my mind.
M: Why?
W: I think flying will be more comfortable.
Text 5
M: Is the bookstore open every day?
W: Yes, it opens at 8:00 in the morning and closes at 5:00 in the afternoon. But on Sundays it closes an hour earlier.
Text 6
M: What are you afraid of?
W: I used to be scared of a lot of things, especially mice, when I was young, but not anymore.
M: How about horror movies?
W: No. I know they’re not real so there is nothing to be afraid of. How about you?
M: I get scared pretty easily. I’m actually frightened of bees.
W: Really? What other things are you afraid of?
M: Sitting by the campfire and telling horror stories is very frightening.
W: Wow. Maybe you have too much imagination.
Text 7
W: Excuse me. Could you help me?
M: Certainly. What can I do for you?
W: We’re looking for a girl’s ski jacket. I like this style. Do you have it in size 10?
M: Let me see... size 4, 6, 8... here we are. Size 10.
W: Oh, I don’t really like yellow. What other colors does it come in?
M: It comes in red, pink, light blue and black.
W: The pink is nice. How much is it?
M: It’s $ 160.
W: Oh, well, that’s too expensive. We’ll have to think about it.
Text 8
W: Ted, I want to know what you eat in the morning.
M: I don’t usually have breakfast because I can’t get up early enough to eat! I normally just buy a coffee and drink it in the office.
W: Oh, then what do you often have for lunch?
M: When I was younger, I used to go to fast food restaurants and have pizza, or fried chicken and chips, but now I prefer eating rice and vegetables.
W: Where do you often have lunch now?
M: In a restaurant near the company.
W: Then your dinner?
M: For dinner I eat at home.
W: Do you ever cook?
M: Well, I like cooking, but I work very late every day, so my wife cooks.
W: How does she cook?
M: Well, I think she could work in a restaurant.
Text 9
W: Did your wife give birth yet?
M: Yeah. We have a healthy beautiful girl.
W: Congratulations. How is your wife doing?
M: She is tired, but getting a lot of rest now.
W: That’s good for her.
M: But I haven’t slept that well for a whole week.
W: That’s normal for anyone with a newborn baby.
M: Yeah, but it’s so hard. I have to work, and then go home and take care of my wife and my baby. I’m going to get sick at this rate.
W: You’ll get used to it. After everything gets stable, you can regain your health.
M: That’s true. I should make sure my wife and my baby stay healthy during this time. I’ll go home immediately after I finish the work in hand. By the way, since every couple can have two children, don’t you consider having another child? You needn’t worry about being dismissed as before.
W: But I’m not interested any longer. My son is 18. Maybe I’ll have to look after his child soon.
Text 10
W: Leonardo da Vinci was an artist, scientist, and inventor during the Renaissance in Italy. The word “renaissance” comes from Latin and means “to be born again”. The Renaissance was a time when Europe started to develop its arts and science again. It lasted from about the 1300s to the 1600s. Born in 1452, Leonardo da Vinci was one of the most famous men of this time. He is considered to be one of the most talented and intelligent people of all time. Have you heard of the term “renaissance man”? It means someone who does many things very well.
It was originally used to to describe Leonardo da Vinci’s talents. Leonardo da Vinci is probably most well-known as a painter. Two of his most famous paintings, and perhaps two of his most famous paintings in the world, are Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. The Mona Lisa is a picture of woman with a meaningful smile. The Last Supper is about the famous Christian story.
