In Britain, it’s bottoms up from the week before Christmas till the last firework explodes in the sky announcing the new year. The last Friday before Christmas popularly known as “Mad Friday” — is one of the busiest periods for the country’s pubs and clubs.
But it’s not just the bars that get busy. Ambulances and A&E departments around Britain get packed out too. Head injuries, cuts, falls ... it’s easy to end up hurting yourself or others when selfcontrol disappear and your head is spinning due to alcohol. Revelers (纵酒狂欢的人) have been warned by the health authorities about the dangers of deadly drinking but drinking crazily seems to be part of the festivities for some.
The charity Alcohol Concern is running a campaign of restriction by encouraging people to have a dry January.
Jackie Ballard, the charity’s Chief Executive, believes the campaign has been successful in recent years. She says, “More than two thirds of people even six months later are drinking at reduced levels having had a month off drink. But also a study has shown the impact it has on people's health reducing their blood pressure and blood sugar levels.”
The study by the University of Sussex followed up nearly 900 participants in Alcohol Concern’s Dry January campaign and found out that 72% of them had kept harmful drinking sessions down and 4% were still not drinking.
Moderation (适度) seems to be the key to everything. The official recommendation for women is not to regularly drink more than 2 to 3 units of alcohol a day. The limit for men is 3 to 4 units of alcohol — no more than a pint of 5.2% ABV lager, beer or cider.

Christmas Day is for eating, drinking, watching bad TV — and trying to cover up your embarrassment as you realize your husband’s aunt Maud has spent her pension on your present while you bought her a set of Christmas cards.
Present buying can be a minefield: from how much to spend, to whether to risk surprising receivers with a gift they don't want, to knowing if you should buy your neighbor you only say hello to a little something.
Here, FEMAIL has asked experts for their top tips on how to select present to ensure the only thing that’s red this Christmas is Santa Claus’ nose.
“If you’ve just started seeing someone you don’t need to spend a fortune.” says dating advisor James Preece.
“It’s much better to impress them with your imagination by choosing a gift that’s a little bit different. £20 is about the right amount, with a maximum of £50 if you can afford it.”
“Or you don’t even need to go that far”, says relationship expert and founder of BeLoveCurious.com, Helen Rice. “Plan to spend a romantic evening together or have a fun day out. Feel free to give the person you're dating something thoughtful, just don’t spend a lot of money.”
“If you’re in a long-term relationship then your budget really reflects on your personal situation,” adds James. “You don’t need to go crazy, but it’s a great opportunity to show you love and appreciate them.”
“It’s also best to buy a few cheaper presents rather than big one. Part of the fun is the mystery and unwrapping, so it will last longer if you give them several to enjoy.”

根据第一段最后一句“The last Friday before Christmas popularly known as ‘Mad Friday’ — is one of the busiest periods for the country’s pubs and clubs.”
根据最后一段第一句“Moderation (适度) seems to be the key to everything.”

1. was eating “be doing ... when ...”
故填who/that。
6. on operate on sb. 故填on。
9. Them 短语be sensitive to意为“对…… 故填them。
10. colleagues 根据句中“such as Tom, Peter and so on”可知,本句说的是好几个同事,应用复数。
第二句:such → so

第四句:your → our

Full of beauty, happiness and a healthy love of life, the Bulgarian festivals and customs date back to old time when man tried to live in peace with nature. The Sahara Festival is a celebration of the very recent past. The three-day event is not fixed to the same dates each year, but generally takes place in November or December. It is well attended by tourists, but even better attended by locals.
During the opening ceremonies, after the official greetings from the government leaders, people who attend the festival begin to march smartly before the viewing stands, and white camels transport their riders across the sands. Horsemen from different nations display their beautiful clothes and their fine horsemanship. One following another, groups of musicians and dancers from all over the Sahara take their turn to show off their wonderful traditional culture. Groups of men in blue and yellow play horns and beat drums as they dance in different designs. On their knees in the sand, a group of women in long dark dresses dance with their hair: their long, dark, shiny hair is thrown back and forth in the wind to the rhythm of their dance.
The local and visiting Italian dogs are anxious to run after hares. The crowd is on its feet for the camel races. Camels and riders run far into the distance, and then return to the finish Line in front of the cheering people.
Towards the evening, there comes the grand finale of the opening day, an extremely exciting horserace. All the riders run very fast on horseback. Some riders hang off the side of their saddles. Some even ride upside down -- their legs and feet straight up in the air -- all at full speed. Others rush down the course together, men arm in arm, on different horses. On and on they went. SO fast and so wonderful!

Learning to set goals plays an important role as your child starts to gain independence. However, setting goals doesn’t come naturally to your child, so helping him to learn the process should probably be one of your goals.
Explain the word “goal”. Your child may know what a goal is when it comes to soccer, but he may not understand what it means in everyday life. __16__
Listen to your child. Ideally, you want your child to be able to decide for himself what his goals are. __17__ Let him talk about what he thinks he does well and what he thinks he needs to improve. If he’s stuck, you can provide some examples of your own personal goals.
Help keep goals achievable. Don’t throw cold water on your child. __18__ For example, if your child wants to be a champion swimmer, but can’t swim an entire lap of the pool yet, you can suggest he start by making that his first goal.
__19__ Help your child write down his goals in an easy to follow form. Being able to see and check off the steps on the way to his goal is key in keeping him motivated. A really simple way is to have your child draw a ladder on a piece of paper, writing his goal at the top and each step to that goal on the rungs (梯级). __20__
A.Change goals every so often.
B.Make a visual goal reminder.
C.Don’t always tell him what you think.

E.You can take sports as an example to help explain it to him.

Last week we held a discussion on which we should do for our school before we graduate. The students in our class have different suggestion. Some students thought that we can collect money to buy some books for the school library or everything else for the schoo1. Other students argue that there’s not necessary to spend money. We can study hard and make our school feeling proud of us.
In my opinion, we don’t have to spend money. We can do something meaningfully without money. For an example, we can do some voluntary work to beautify the school and try to get better results in the coming exams so that our school will proud of us.

Dear Editor,
Yesterday afternoon our class had a discussion on the good and bad sides of setting off firecrackers during the Spring Festival. We had different viewpoints on the problem. Half of us believed that setting off firecrackers during the Spring Festival is a Chinese cultural tradition and it certainly adds pleasure and joy to the festival. What’s more, it may help the people to get rid of evil things. But another half of us held that setting off firecrackers during the Spring Festival may cause air and noise pollution. What’s worse, it sometimes causes terrible accidents to children and to our property.
Could you tell me what your opinions are, then?
Yours truly,
Li Ming
