Getting around in Canada is fairly easy. Most cities have urban transportation systems, including buses, streetcars, and trains, and some of the larger cities also have subways.
You can board the transportation at regular stops along the routes. Some let you pay in cash, others require tickets. If you don't have a ticket for the bus,you must pay the right amount of money. This is because the driver does not carry any change. Once you get settled, you may want to buy a monthly pass or a package of tickets to save money. You can buy subway tickets at the subway station.
If you have to take several buses or change subways on a single trip, you do not need to pay money each time. Simply ask the driver for a transfer,or pick one up from the machine on the subway platform.
If you are not sure where to board the bus or the streetcar, just ask someone,or follow the crowd. It's usually at the front of the bus, where you show your pass to the driver. When using public transportation,Canadians line up. First come, first served,is a common approach to many activities in Canada.
Maps of routes and schedules are usually available from the public transit company in your area, and there may also be a telephone information line. You may want to ask someone for the name of the transit company in the area where you live, and then look it up in your telephone book.

Everglades National Park (大沼泽地国家公园) is located in the state of Florida. It is the largest wilderness in the entire country and makes up 25% of the wetlands in the state. The park is home to several rare and endangered species. It is also the third largest national park in the US, after Death Valley and Yellowstone. Each year, about 1 million tourists visit the park. On a global level, it has been announced as a World Heritage Site.
Unlike most other national parks, Everglades National Park was created to protect an ecosystem (生态系统) from damage. In 1947, President Harry Truman spoke at the official opening of Everglades National Park, saying the goal of creating the park was to protect forever a wild area that could never be replaced.
10,000 different islands make up Everglades National Park. Each of these islands is lived by natural wildlife. The Everglades is home to about 15 species that are endangered. In addition, more than 350 bird species and 300 species of fresh and saltwater fish live within the park. The Everglades is also home to 40 species of mammals and 50 reptile species.
There are many ways to explore the Everglades. Visitors can see alligators (短吻鳄) while hiking the Anhinga Trail. The Everglades is one of the only places on Earth where freshwater alligators and saltwater crocodiles live in the same area. Visitors using airboats are likely to see large groups of birds. Some visitors might enjoy riding bicycles through Shark Valley. Others may want to move slowly through waters where they can see insects and wildlife closely.
According to experts, changes to the Everglades are becoming a danger to several different kinds of wildlife. They say it is a result of actions the US government began more than 50 years ago, and settlers began even earlier.

I began to grow up that winter night when my parents and I were returning from my aunt’s house, and my mother said that we might soon be leaving for America. We were on the bus then. I was crying, and some people on the bus were turning around to look at me. I remember that I could not bear the thought of never hearing again the radio program for school children to which I listened every morning.
I do not remember myself crying for this reason again. In fact, I think I cried very little when I was saying goodbye to my friends and relatives. When we were leaving I thought about all the places I was going to see—the strange and magical places I had known only from books and pictures. The country I was leaving never to come back was hardly in my head then.
The four years that followed taught me the importance of optimism, but the idea did not come to me at once. For the first two years in New York I was really lost—having to study in three schools as a result of family moves. I did not quite know what I was or what I should be. Mother remarried, and things became even more complex for me. Some time passed before my stepfather and I got used to each other. I was often sad, and saw no end to “the hard times. ”
My responsibilities in the family increased a lot since I knew English better than everyone else at home. I wrote letters, filled out forms, translated at interviews with Immigration officers, took my grandparents to the doctor and translated there, and even discussed telephone bills with company representatives.
From my experiences I have learned one important rule: almost all common troubles eventually go away! Something good is certain to happen in the end when you do not give up, and just wait a little! I believe that my life will turn out all right, even though it will not be that easy.

Given Australia’s size and the fact that early settlements were far apart,Australian society is remarkably homogeneous (同种的). Its citizens are fundamentally prosperous and the way of life in the major cities and towns is much the same however many miles divide them. It takes a sharp ear to identify regional accents.
However, there is some difference in lifestyle between city dwellers and the country people. Almost 90 percent of the population lives in the fast-paced cities along the coast and has little more than a passing familiarity with the desert. The major cities preserve pockets of colonial heritage, but the overall impression is modern, with new buildings reflecting the country’s youth. In contrast, the rural communities tend to be slow- moving and conservative. For many years ,Australia was said to have “ridden on the sheep’s back”, a reference to wool being the country’s main money-earner. However, the wool industry is no longer dominant. Much of Australia’s relatively sound economy is now achieved from natural coal and wheat, and by being the largest diamond producer in the world. Newer industries such as tourism and wine making are also increasingly important. Australians are generally friendly and relaxed, with a self-deprecating sense of humour. On the whole, Australia is a society without hierarchies (等级制度),an attitude generally held to stem from its prisoner beginnings.
Yet, contrary to widespread belief, very few Australians have true prisoner origins. Within only one generation of the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, Australia had become a nation of immigrants. Originally coming almost entirely from the British Isles, today one in three Australians comes from elsewhere. Australia’s liberal postwar immigration policies led to an influx of survivors from war-torn Europe, most notably Greeks, Italians, Poles and Germans.
The emphasis has shifted in recent years and today the majority of new immigrants are from Southeast Asia. Today Australia is a ‘blend of nations’ and although some racism exists, it has generally been a successful experiment and the country is justifiably proud to have one of the most harmonious multicultural communities in the world.
12.What does the writer mean by saying “It takes a sharp ear to identify regional accents.” in the first paragraph?
A.Australians speak Standard English with no local accents whatsoever.
B.You have to practice a lot to learn to understand the different accents.
C.The Australian regional accents are very difficult to understand indeed.
D.There is not much difference between the accents in different areas of Australia.
13.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Most Australians have ancestors who were prisoners.
B. The Australian economy is dependent on sheep exports.
C. The majority of people living in Australia come from Europe.
D. The pace of life is different in the city and in the country.
14.The underlined pronoun “it” in the final paragraph refers to “________”.
A.community B.racism
C.blend of nations D.Southeast Asia
15.We can infer from the passage that ________.
A.there are no signs of Australia’s colonial past in its modern cities
B.Australia’s recent immigration policy encourages immigrants from Southeast Asia
C.immigrants from Southeast Asia have brought racial problems
D.“riding on sheep’s back” resulted in slow development in rural communities

根据Tour B中Oxford部分的“Includes a guided tour of England’s oldest university city and colleges.”
根据Tour C部分中的“...Hampton Court was once the home of four Kings and one Queen.” 这与A项中的royal families(皇室)吻合,故选A。
根据第三段中提到的“more than 350 bird species” “300 species of fresh and saltwater fish” “40 species of mammals”和“50 reptile species”可知,作者是通过列举数据来描述大沼泽地国家公园野生动物的丰富性的。
根据第二段后半部分中的“...I had known only from books and pictures.”
从文章第一段“the way of life in the major cities and towns is much the same however many miles divide them”可以知道澳大利亚城乡有太多的相似性,所以要找它们的差异,需要sharp ear(敏锐的耳朵)去倾听。
根据第二段中“Almost 90 percent of the population lives in the fast-paced cities...In contrast, the rural communities tend to be slow-moving”可知D项正确。根据第三段中“contrary to widespread belief, very few Australians have true prisoner origins”可判断A项错误; 根据第二段中“However, the wool industry is no longer dominant. Much of Australia’s...from natural coal and wheat.”
根据文章第四段 “Today Australia is a “blend of nations” and although some racism exists” 可知道尽管澳大利亚存在稍许种族主义,但并不影响它是一个融和的国家,正是它的“blend of nations”,使它成为“the most harmonious multicultural communities in the world”。
15. B。 根据文章第二段第五行“The major cities preserve pockets of colonial heritage”判断A项错误。 根据文章第二段“Australia was said to have ‘ridden on the sheep’s back’, a reference to wool being the country’s main money-earner”可知羊毛过去是个整个国家的产业,而并非就是偏远地区发展滞后的原因,判断D项错误。
