The analysis of the teaching material:
This class is the speaking and writing part of Unit 5 Book 3. It is about how to introduce a place, which is a familiar topic in our life and also closely related to the major of the students in broadcasting. The students have learned the two reading passages in Unit 5, they learned some useful sentences and sentence patterns to describe a place which can be used in this class. And this class tries to make a summary of how to introduce a place to guide the students’ composition.
The analysis of the students
The students major in broadcasting. They are from Senior Grade One, who have accumulated a certain amount of vocabulary and phrases, but they lack of some writing guide.
Teaching objects

(1) To guide the students to make a mind map of a composition;
(2)To guide the students to tell something to introduce a place;
(3)To guide the students to write a composition to describe a place.

Teaching procedures:
Before class:
Assign the homework which requires the students to look through both of the reading passages in Unit 5 to collect some relative sentences or sentence patterns to describe a place.
While class:
Step 1: lead-in (5 mins)
Describe and guess
The teacher gives some clues of a place and asks the students to guess which country it is.
The teacher gives some clues of a place (using the same sentence patterns as last quiz) and asks the students to guess which city it is.
Ask a student to make a quiz according to the same sentence patterns and let others guess.
(设计目的)针对同学们的英语基础,设计本课重点词组及句型,反复出现,并鼓励学生用自己的语言来复述题目,激发学生上课的兴趣,同时多处复现本课重点语句和句型。
Step 2 Brainstorm(15mins)
1. mind map
Ask the students to sum up the quizzes. And draw a mind map to help them to know what aspects should be concerned when we introduce a place.
(设计目的)通过思维导图的形式让同学们自己梳理得出描述某一地点的作文要点。
2. speaking exercise
Group activity. Only the main points are not enough, we also need some detailed information. The teacher gives some samples of the sentences or sentence patterns, and encourages the students to find more.
The students make a discussion with patterns according to their homework yesterday. Write some relative sentences on the study paper. Then read them to the others. The speaking
The teacher list the important sentences patterns and sentences on the screen and let the students read them together.
(设计目的)前一天老师布置的作业,让同学们收集描述某一地点的语句及句型。结合本单元阅读课文学生之前的知识储备,以完善思维导图的方式让学生梳理分类,从而总结本课重点句型和句子。让同学们朗读并写在学案上,为课堂写作做准备。
Step 3 Consolidation (20mins)
1. Read sentence patterns again, and give the students the task of this class: our school is going to present a TV program named Impression of Jinan. As the students major in broadcasting they will be the hosts or hostesses of the program. And they need to write the narration of it both in Chinese and in English. The teacher gives some information of Jinan to help the students.

2. Invite a student to read the information in Chinese.
(设计目的)根据同学们播音主持专业设计本课学习任务,将专业特长与英语学习相结合,充分调动学生学习积极性,更能促进同学们的英语学习热情和实用性。
3. Divide the students into four groups to have a discussion and then write their own composition to introduce Jinan. Try to use as many sentence patterns as we learned in class. Ask some students to read their compositions and make comments on them.
(设计目的)学以致用,这是语言输出的过程,这项任务从学生感兴趣的专业特长入手,有助于激发兴趣,扩展英语综合能力,促进学生语言的再生和运用。考虑到艺术生英语基础薄弱,借助汉语背景可以降低英语写作难度,有利于基于学生现状培养和提高他们用英语进行思维和表达的能力,学校效果明显。
Step 4 Summary (5mins)
Ask the students to work in pairs and make a summary of what we have learned in this class and make a presentation.
(设计目的)通过总结的形式,给学生了“留白时间”总结本堂课所学,真正达到学以致用的目的。
