1. more than 多于, 超过;不仅, 不只

3.because of 与because的区别
because of 后接名词、代词、动名词
because 引导原因状语从句

4.even if
even if =even though 即便,即使,引导让步状语从句。
Even if/ though we don’t like it ,we must do it. 即使我们不喜欢它,也必须去做。
I’ll get there, even though /if I have to walk. 我就是走也要走那儿去。
拓展:
有时even if/ though引导的从句与事实相反时,谓语动词应用虚拟语气形式。
Even if/ though I were in your place, I wouldn’t take the job.
即使我在你的位置,也不会接受这份工作。
5. come up
①走近;靠近?

7.过去分词做定语
原文再现:At first the English spoken in England between about AD 450 and 1150 was very different from the English spoken today.
起初,大约在公元450年到1150年间, 人们所说的英语跟今天所说的英语就很不一样。
考点分析
spoken 是过去分词作定语并表被动含义,相当于which/that was spoken
例句:

常用结构:
make good/full use of=make the best/most of 充分利用

11.separate v.(使)分隔,(使)分离 adj.单独的,独立的
常用结构:
separate A from B 把A 和B 分开

易混辨析divide…into/separate…from
divide…into 意为“把…分成…”,指把整体分为若干部分,即破坏原有的完整性。
separate…from 意为“使分开;使分离”,指把原来结合在一起或混杂的东西分开,被分开的东西没有任何统一性,有时含有用暴力强行分开之意。

例句:
We divided the orange into several segments. 我们把橘子分成了几瓣。
He has been separated from his parents since he was 25 years old.他从25岁就和父母分开了。

a number of与the number of 的区别
a number of+名词复数+复数谓语动词 大量的

13.such as 像…一样的;诸如…之类的
such as 与for example的区别
such as 常列举同类人或物中的几个例子,不能穷尽,可和and so on连用,可分开使用such…as…,常用来放在所列举的事物之前
for example 一般只举同类人或物中的“一个”为例,作插入语,用逗号隔开,可置于句首、句中、句末

Kobe Bryant was born with basketball already in his blood. His dad was a former NBA star. When Kobe was six years old, his dad started playing basketball in Europe, so his family moved to Italy. The family stayed there for seven years. While living in Italy, Kobe learned to speak fluent Italian and started playing basketball.
The family moved back to the United States when Kobe was 13 and he started playing high school basketball. In a trade the Hornets are still crying about, they sent Kobe to the LA Lakers. Despite not going to college, Kobe was a quick learner on the courts of the NBA. He played in the NBA All-Star Game for the first time in 1998 and by 2000, Kobe had developed into one of basketball's best players. Kobe and Shaquille O'Neal teamed up to lead the LA Lakers to three straight NBA Championship Titles from 2000 to 2002. In 2003, Kobe was caught by the police. In 2004, the case against Kobe was dropped, but Kobe still had to live with a damaged reputation. In 2004, Kobe tried to prove that he could lead the LA Lakers without Shaq. After Kobe told the Lakers he wouldn’t be wearing the purple and gold if Shaq was in the team, O'Neal was traded to the Miami Heat before the 2004-2005 season. The trade was good news for the Heat, who won the NBA championship with O'Neal. In the next few years, Kobe grew disappointed as his team repeatedly suffered first round exits. Kobe Bryant was born with basketball already in his blood. His dad was a former NBA star. When Kobe was six years old, his dad started playing basketball in Europe, so his family moved to Italy. 直接引语是祈使句
当直接引语是祈使句,变为间接引语要用“tell sb. (not) to do sth.”结构。
The teacher said to her mother , “Please give me the book.”
→The teacher told her mother to give her the book.
巧记:去掉引号要加to;ask,order须记住,直引若是否定式,not加在to前部。
转述祈使句时,要使祈使句的动词原形变为带to的不定式,并在不定式的前面根据句子的意思加上tell、ask、order等动词,如果祈使句为否定式,在不定式的前面加not。如果祈使句中有please一词,改为间接引语时,就将please去掉。成为:told (asked, ordered, warned)someone (not) to do something结构。
He said, “Sit down, please.” 他说:“请坐。”

巧记: 当直接引语为陈述句,主句为过去时,变成间接引语的“顺口溜”是:
去掉引号加that,人称变化要灵活,时态向后退一步,状语变化按规定。
