Reading 2 The opera,Turandot, is set in the Forbidden City.In the beginning, Turandot wants to avoid marriage, saying that any potential husband will be condemned to death unless he can solve three riddles.Calaf falls in love with her at first sight .The story takes on a classic love triangle between Turandot, Calaf and Liu. However, Turandot resists marrying him. Then, Calaf promises not to marry her if Turandot can tell his name. So, she demands that Calaf’s father and Liu should tell her his name. But Liu refuses and kills herself. At the end of the story, the prince and princess unite in marriage.
After many people see the opera performed in the Forbidden City, they think it could not be more moving and successful!Presentation The opera,Turandot, is set in the Forbidden City. The story takes on a classic love triangle between Turandot, Calaf and Liu.
