Aids was first discovered in the 1980s.It is caused by a virus called HIV, which enters a person’s blood and attacks the body’s immune system. The immune system weakens and loses the ability to fight illnesses, which means the infected people can become sick very easily.HIV is spread in three ways—through unprotected sex, blood-to-blood contact and mother-to-child transmission.About 14,000 people are infected daily.Over 60 million people have been infected. More than 14 million children have lost their parents to Aid. According to government figures from January 2006, there were about 650,000 HIV-positive people and about 75,000 Aids patients in China. It has opened labs to test and monitor the disease. In 2003, it started providing free drugs for Aids patients in need. Since 2001, organizations such as the United Nations and the WHO have been supporting Aids prevention education and medicine distribution programmes in China.Translation People know so little about Aids that they discriminate against Aids patients.
Some people feel frightened once Aid topic is mentioned and It is believed among them that they will be infected with Aids as long as they are in contact with Aids patients.
Worse still, in their opinions, Aids is always associated with illegal behaviors and immoral ones, such as drug-taking. We should get close to this special group to know their inner feelings, making them feel warm.
What the Aids patients need is fair treatment, love and respect.
The whole society should work together to create an atmosphere where the Aids patients will never feel isolated .
It is love that gets rid of the discrimination and bridges the gap between the Aids patients and us.
