"When someone gives me money, it just makes me think they're being lazy, " says John Wilson. In England, we have a saying, "It's the thought that 10 .When someone gives me money, I feel they don't think about it at all. I prefer to receive a gift that has some thought behind it."

Lucy, who is forty, teaches Physics at a college in Boston. "Next term, I'll teach some of my classes by using the Internet. This is the way of teaching that I've never used before. These days, I am taking a class to learn how to teach in this way. If not, I will lose my job." At the same time, Lucy's seventy-year-old parents, who live in New York, are taking an art history class online. "We love this subject," says her father. "And we learn it to enjoy ourselves. You see we can study with people all over the world. What fun it is to learn like this!"

Before Christmas, Mr Black broke his right leg and had to stay in hospital. When he was there, he always asked his doctor when he could leave and go home. He had a bad day in bed and felt so sad.
Some days later, the doctor told him that he would be well enough to leave hospital before the New Year. Mr Black was glad that he would spend New Year's Day outside the hospital, and he could have parties with his friends.
Soon Mr Black left hospital. On the night before New Year's Day he went to a big party and enjoyed himself there. He didn't go home until it was 12 o'clock. But he drank too much. On his way home at night, he had a fall and broke his left leg. And now you know where you could see Mr Black on New Year's Day.
