1）其形式为说明文、短文、故事，也有书信等，具有很强的实用性。
2）其错误为语法错误和逻辑错误两种；
3）其的目的在于测试学生判断、发现、纠正语篇中语言错误的能力以及考查学生的语篇中综合运用英语的准确性。
一般来说，短文的内容相对简单，结构也不太复杂，但由于测试点覆盖面广，层次多，涉及的是考生容易忽略甚至是在平时写作过程中常犯的错误，所以令好多考生对短文改错题难以下手。因此，短文改错题的最大难点是找错误点，只要能准确判断错误所在，改错自然就不成问题了。
短文改错考点归纳1.新短文错误设置形式大致分为三类：错一词（—）、
多一词（ ）、少一词（∧）。往往为 8(错)：1(多): 1(少)
2.短文改错考点范围虽然很广，但万变不离其宗，总是涉及基础知识的两方面：语法错误和逻辑错误。短文错误类型主要有：
（1）主谓不一致
（2）人称前后有矛盾或从句代词错用；
（3）固定短语搭配有误；
（4）名词单复误用；
（5）形容词和副词混淆；
（6）动词时态、语态不正确
（7）行文逻辑错误（包括连词使用不恰当）
（8）非谓语动词的误用；
（9）冠词误用或多冠词或少用冠词；
