During the day, most people go to work by train. Six million train tickets are sold every year in Tokyo. At most stations, trains arrive every two or three minutes, but they are always crowded, they are very good in many ways. They always leave and arrive on time. In London trains, you may see everybody reading a newspaper. But in Tokyo trains, everybody seems to be sleepy.
There are a lot of people in the street and sometimes it is really difficult to walk. The worst time in the street is at 11:30 at night. That is because the nightclubs (夜总会) are closed at that time and everybody wants to go home then. There are 35,000 nightclubs in Tokyo, and usually the business of them is very good at night.

We cannot live a modern life without travelling. The fastest way of travelling is by air. With a plane one can travel in one day to places which it took a month or more to get to a hundred years ago.
Travelling by train is slower than by plane, but one can see the country he is travelling through. Modern trains have comfortable seats and dinning-cars. ② They even make the longest journey enjoyable.
Some people prefer to travel by sea when possible. There are large luxury liners (客轮) or river boats. They are not as fast as trains or planes, but travelling by sea is a very pleasant way to spend a holiday.
Many people like to travel by car. They can make their own timetable. ③他们一天能旅行数百英里, just as their wish. They can stop wherever they want to see something interesting or to enjoy a good meal at a good restaurant, or to spend the night at a hotel. That is why people choose travelling by car for pleasant trips, while they usually take trains or planes for business.

We can go from Beijing to Jinan by train, by taxi or by bus. The train fare is 80 yuan, the taxi fare is 300 yuan, and the bus fare is 60 yuan, so the cheapest way is by bus. But it is the slowest way, too. The quickest way is by taxi, but it’s the most expensive way. The most comfortable way from Beijing
to Jinan is by train. Which way do you like best if you go from Beijing to Jinan?
