Elizabeth: Sorry, sir. I can't marry you.
Darcy: This is all the reply that I am to have! I might, perhaps ask why I am refused so abruptly?
Elizabeth: I might as well enquire why you told me you liked me against your will??But there are other reasons! Do you think I would accept the man who has ruined the happiness of my beloved sister. I have every reason in the world to think ill of you. You cannot deny that you opposed the marriage of my sister with your friend.
Darcy: I did everything in my power to separate my friend from your sister, and I rejoice my success.
Elizabeth: But this is not the only reason I dislike you. Long ago my initial opinion of you was decided when I was informed by Mr Wickham of his hardship.
Darcy: His hardship, have been great indeed.
Elizabeth: He is poor because of you. He is innocent yet you treat his hardship with extreme unkindness.
Darcy: And this ,is your opinion of me?Thank you for being outspoken. If your pride has not been hurt by my honest confession. And if I have flattered you, it might have been different. I am not ashamed of the feeling I have related. They were natural and just. Could you expect me to congratulate myself on relations, whose condition in life is so decidedly beneath my own.
Elizabeth: You’re mistaken, Mr. Darcy. Your rudeness when you offered me your hand in marriage helped me. It spared me any concern I might have felt in refusing you if you had behaved more like a gentleman.
Darcy: You have said quite enough, madam. Forgive me for having taken up so much of your time and accept my best wishes for your health and happiness.
