Chinese people do not have the same concept of privacy as Americans do.They talk about topics such as ages, income or marital status, which Americans think are annoying and disturbing.
Family
In China, elders are traditionally treated with great respect while the young are cared for.In America, the goal of the family is to encourage independence, particularly that of the children.Unlike the Chinese, older Americans seldom live with their children.
Friends
Chinese people have different meanings to define friends.Just hanging out together from time to time is not friendship.Friendship means lifelong friends who feel it deeply necessary to give each other whatever help might seem required. Americans always call people they meet friends,so the definition of friends is general and different. There are work friends, playing friends, school friends and drinking friends.
Money
As is well known, the Chinese like to save. They are always conservative when they are planning to spend money. It is different in the US,where far fewer families are saving money for emergencies and education than their Chinese counterparts(对 应面).
Education
Chinese people value education and career more than Americans, who in turn put more emphasis on good characters and faith.
Team VS Individual
Basically China values the community and the US values the individual. If you achieve something in the US,it’s because you are great. While in China,if you achieve something it’s because the team,or family,or company is great.Everything you do gets attributed to the greater whole, while in America individual merits (功绩) are celebrated.
1.Which is the most appropriate word to show the first cultural difference?
A.Privacy. B.Income. C.Age. D.Marriage.
2.Which is TRUE according to the passage?
A.American parents seldom live with their children.
B.There is no friendship between American people drinking together.
C.Chinese people are usually generous with money to spend.
D.Americans value good characters and faith in terms of education.
3.Which one is similar to the underlined phrase?
A.is attached to B.brings in C.is promoted to D.results in
Chinese people do not have the same concept of privacy as Americans do. 故选A。

Things to Know Before Adopting a Dog
The idea of giving someone a puppy for Christmas provides a warm fuzzy response for most people.1. Pets carry a lot of responsibility, but they reward their owners with years of love and devotion.?
Be Realistic About How Much Time You Have
In a busy world, full of work, soccer games, and family dinners, time is more precious. When adopting an animal it is important to consider how much time you have to devote to training and caring for it.2. If you have plenty of extra time to devote to a pet,a puppy is a good choice.?
Think About How Much Space You Have
Large dogs naturally require more room than small dogs. They need big yards to run in,or a nearby area where they can go for longer walks. If you live in a small apartment on an upper floor, this can be a problem.3. Smaller dogs take up less space and are often easier to transport up and down stairs and in elevators. If you have a large home with a big backyard where your dog can run and play, then a larger breed may be a good fit for you.?
4. ?
If you have small children,a patient dog with a high tolerance level is necessary. Kids explore with their hands, and they are likely to touch, tug, pet, and crawl all over the new dog.In this situation, you need to choose a dog with an easygoing temperament-who will not become frustrated and bite.5. ?
A.Consider the Other Pets in Your Home
B.Choose the Right Dog for Your Situation
C.However, adopting a dog is not something to be taken lightly.
D.A puppy requires a lot more time and attention than an older dog.
E.Walking around a small space with a Labrador underfoot can be frustrating.
F.Adopting a dog rather than buying one benefits both the animal and your family.
G.Breeds like Golden Retrievers,Labradors, and Border Collies are well known for their family friendly attitude.

We were ordinary people taking the bus every day that summer.During the early morning rides,we sat sleepily on our seats. One of the passengers was a small grey man to the center for senior citizens. He walked with a stoop (驼背) and a sad look on his face.We paid little attention to him.
Then one July morning he said good morning to the driver and smiled to us before sitting down. The driver nodded politely, the rest of us being silent. The next day,the old man boarded the bus energetically, smiled and said loud,“Good morning!” Some of us looked up,amazed, and murmured “Good morning”.The following weeks we were more surprised. Our friend was dressed in a nice old suit with the thin hair carefully combed. He said good morning to us every day and we gradually began to nod and talk to each other. One morning he had a bunch of wild flowers in his hand. The driver smilingly asked,“Have you got yourself a girlfriend?” He nodded shyly,“She lives at the center.” The other passengers whistled and clapped at him.Charlie bowed before sitting down.
Every morning after that Charlie always brought a flower. Some regular passengers began bringing him flowers for his bunch.Everyone smiled and joked about it.

The Domestication(驯化) of Cats
For centuries, the common view of how domestication had occurred was that prehistoric people, realizing how useful it would be to have animals kept for food, began catching wild animals and breeding(饲养) them.Over time,by allowing only animals with “tame”(驯养的) characteristics to produce their babies, human beings created animals that were less wild and more dependent upon people.Eventually this process led to the domestic farm animals and pets that we know today, having lost their ancient survival skills and natural abilities.
Recent research suggests that this view of domestication is incomplete. Prehistoric human beings did catch and breed useful wild animals, but specialists in animal behavior now think that domestication was not simply something people did to animals—the animals played an active part in the process.Wolves and wild horses, for example, may have taken the first steps in their own domestication by hanging around human settlements, feeding on people’s crops and getting used to human activity. The animals which were not too nervous or fearful to live near people produced their babies that also tolerated humans, making it easier for people to catch and breed them.
In this version, people succeeded in domesticating only animals that had already adapted easily to life around humans.Domestication required an animal that was willing to become domestic. The process was more like a dance with partners than a victory of humans over animals.
At first glance, the taming of cats seems to fit nicely into this new story of domestication.A traditional theory says that after prehistoric people in Egypt invented agriculture and started farming, rats and mice gathered to feast on their stored grain.Wildcats,in turn, gathered at the same places to hunt and eat the rats and mice.Over time, cats got used to people and people got used to cats. Some studies of wildcats, however, seem to call this theory into question.Wildcats don’t share hunting and feeding areas, and they don’t live close to people.Experts do not know whether wildcats were partners in their own domestication. They do know that long after people had acquired domestic dogs, sheep and horses, they somehow acquired domestic cats.Gradually they produced animals with increasingly tame qualities.
5.What is suggested in recent research?
A.Animals were less afraid than thought.
B.Animals had an active role in their domestication.
C.Wolves and horses were the first to be domesticated.
D.Domestication meant something people did to animals.
6.The word “dance” is used in Paragraph 3 to show that .?
A.animals and humans were close B.control over animals was easy
C.animals were independent of humans D.domestication was like a game
7.What probably attracted cats to human settlements?
A.Other cats. B.Warmth. C.Humans. D.Food.
8.What causes a problem for the theory that cats were domesticated like wolves were?
A.Cats were not friendly to people.
B.Cats were not as fierce as wolves.
C.Cats had the characteristic of independence.
D.Cats showed cleverness when they were hunting.
根据文章第二段第二句中的domestication was not simply something people did to animals—the animals played an active part in the process.
Wildcats don’t share hunting and feeding areas,and they don’t live close to people.
