Step I Leading
Go through some pictures and answer the question; What’s wrong with them? What can we do to help them?
Step II
Read warming up and get the knowledge about the definition of the first aid. Fill in the blanks about it.
Step III
Ask the SS to giving first aid four two types of degree burns and try to lead them to get the topic of the passage in this Unit---- First Aid for burns.
Step IV
Do the fast reading and answer two questions:
How many types of burns are mentioned?
What knowledge can you get about first aid in other parts of the passage?

Do the detail reading and get the key knowledge of the passage:
Read Para.1-4 answer three questions, including functions of the skin, causes of the burns, types and characteristics of the burns.

Dos and Don’ts help the Ss know the treatment of the burns.

The Ss can deal with something by themselves. Try to lead them to know what is right and what is wrong and how to deal with the different situations by themselves.

1. Our skin has three layers.

3. Burns are divided into three degrees according to the degree of pain.
4. Third degree burns are the most serious and painful.
5. Put cool water on any burns to cool them.

7. It’s better that you put some butter or oil on burns.
Discuss in groups of four to see whether the following is right or wrong. If it’s wrong, explain why and give the correct statement.
1. Sam knocked over a kettle full of boiling water onto this legs. His legs became red, swollen and covered with blisters. Sam broke the blisters and poured icy water from the fridge onto the skin. ( )
2. While ironing clothes, Jiss Good accidentally touched the iron. Her wrist blistered and became watery. It hurt a lot. She put her wrist under the cold water tap and then kept placing cool, clean, damp cloths on it until it was less painful. Then she went to see the doctor. ( )
