The building is shaking. A woman with a baby in her arms is trying to open the door, but fails. Finding no way,she rushes into her bedroom and there they survive the earthquake.
In a factory building,as the workshop floor swings under the terrible shaking, the workers run for safety. Some hide under the machines and survive, but others who try to run outside are killed by the falling ceilings.
These scenes, played by actors and actresses, are from a film of science education Making a Split Second Decision shown in 1998 on China Central TV in memory of Tangshan Earthquake.
By studying actual cases in the earthquake areas and scientific experiments, experts (专家) find that buildings remain untouched for the first 12 seconds of an earthquake.
“In this short time, one has the best chance of surviving an earthquake by staying near the inside walls,in bedrooms or under beds,”experts concluded in the film. “Earthquakes seem to catch the lives of those who run,” said many survivors in the earthquake areas, describing how their friends were killed on the doorways or along the stair steps as they tried to get out of the building.
Their advice was proved in the film,“Take a hiding-place where you are rather than run, unless you are sure you can reach a safe open place in ten seconds. ”

A heavy earthquake can be a terrible experience, and it is easy to forget safety measures(措施) in a hurry. Fortunately, most earthquake safety measures are common sense, but if you forget everything else, remember the following instructions: drop, cover, and hold on. Also, most of the earthquake deaths happen after the earthquake, so remember that the danger does not end when the shaking does!
If you stay indoors during an earthquake, move away from unsupported(没有支撑的) areas and windows. Try to get under a doorway or another area of the building which is held up by strong beams(梁). Stay under a table or a desk only if it is very strong. Do not rush to lifts, because it is far safer to stay where you are. Cover your head with your arms around it and curl(蜷缩) into a ball, and wait for the shaking to stop.
If you stay outdoors during an earthquake, move to an area which is as open as possible. Don't move to buildings which may fall during an earthquake. Protect(保护) your head and stay low to the ground till the shaking ends and it is safe to move.
After an earthquake, many buildings aren't strong. If you stay indoors, move people from the building quickly and help the injured people. Once outdoors, move away from the building so that if it falls down, you will not be injured. Wait till public safety officials announce that it is safe to stay indoors.
By planning ahead and keeping calm during an earthquake, you can greatly increase your chances of survival(生存).

A. trying to protect your head
B. moving to an open place
C. moving away from buildings
D. taking the injured people into the room

It hasn't rained for six months in Liguan village, about 60km away from Kunming. The fields are so dry that lots of plants are dead.
