My first assignment “Unforgettable”, says new journalist
The teaching plan is designed to highlight “qualities” to be a good journalist as well as other jobs. Thus, in reading, the tasks are aimed to help students to know about the qualities and skills of a journalist. In the oral quiz, they will be guided to think about their own advantages and the necessary qualities to suit their ideal careers.
The plan consists of seven steps. The detailed plan is shown as follows:

Before class
Ss are supposed to collect some current interesting news and get the qualities of their favorite journalist.
Step one: Lead-in
Give Ss good news -Congratulate to WuJiaqi on winning. Show Ss two pictures about WuJiaqi’s winning to attract Ss’ interests.
Ss are supposed to give their own news.
Ask Ss who can help me to be the new journalist for Sina, and share his/her opinion on the qualities to be a good journalist.
One or two students will share the opinion on the journalist.
Purpose: Arouse Ss’ interests in making the news with their own experiences, activate Ss to think about the qualities of the journalists, and introduce the passage.
Step two: Skimming
Enable Ss to understand to be a journalist is not easy, for it needs many skills and qualities. Follow Zhou Yang, a new journalist to learn something more about this career.
Read the passage and answer two questions.

Q2: Divide the dialogue into three parts, and match the main idea with each part.Part1(L1-15):

Purpose: Help Ss to get the structure and grasp the general idea of the passage by skimming.

Transition from part 1 to part 2:
From this part, we know making the news is not an individual job, but a team work. So cooperation and respect are necessary, which can help you to get an accurate story.

Part3 (L30-41): How to protect a story from accusations.
Sometimes, some journalists maybe put themselves into difficult situations. In this part, there is a word to describe this situation. What’s it?
The journalists are public features. Their words are influential and even can change others’ fate. So they have to be responsible for others as well as themselves.
Read part 3, and answer the question.
Q: How is the case developed?
Let Ss have a discussion with classmates and give a brief description of the case under the key words shown on the screen.
Purpose: Lead Ss to learn the passage part by part, to enable them get the details. Have a deep understanding of the qualities that a journalist should possess. This step serves as a foundation of the following activities.
Step Four: Summary--Qualities
Q: How to be a good journalist?
Lead Ss to brainstorm the adjectives and noun phrases about the qualities of the journalist.
Ss have known about some qualities that a journalist should possess. How many adjectives can you think of to describe this job.
Ss say some adjectives to describe the journalist.
Ss think out more words to describe the journalist from the screen.
Purpose: Sum up the qualities of a good journalist, know about the qualities of some famous journalists, and experience the excellent qualities to be a journalist.
Step Five: Learn to express yourself
(Speech contest )
Transition: after learning the passage, you have learnt some useful words of the qualities. Let’s see some useful expressions to express yourself. Please show us that you can be the best journalist taking your own personalities into consideration.
Evaluation:
Ss will be evaluated from three aspects- language, performance and content.
Each aspect is evaluated in three levels-high, medium and low.

Purpose: Consolidate what they have learnt about the qualities of the journalist, and find out their own advantages to be a successful journalist.
Step Six: Interview
Transition: Many of us want to be a campus journalist for our school. Now, Let’s challenge yourself to have an interview--to interview your partner as a campus journalist for school to finish my first work assignment.
Finally, make a summary:
Lead Ss to be aware that what they are really interested in, what they can get from the job, and whether they are ready for the challenges and difficulties the career will bring to them. Meanwhile, hope everyone can try their best to achieve dreams.
Ss will Make a dialogue with the partner on the topic: My first work assignment --campus journalist for our school.
One will interview the other about two questions:
1. What is your ideal career?
What qualities should you have?
2. What’s your plan in high school for your future?
Purpose: Simulate Ss’ interest and make a bridge between the passage and Ss’ daily life. Help them to establish their pride for their ideal career.
Step seven: Homework
1. Topic: Write an essay about your ideal career.
2. Content:
(1).The qualities and skills it needs.
(2).The challenges and difficulties it will bring.
Purpose: Enable Ss to consolidate what they learnt and develop their imagination and ability to search and collect information.
