A Linking verb
be
A linking verb is a verb that connects a subject with the adjective or noun that describes it.
Our family lives are different.
We use adjective after the linking verb be (am/is/are
was/were) to say what somebody or something is like.

系动词亦称“连系动词”，它本身有词义，但不能单独作谓语，后面必须跟表语，构成“系表结构”，说明主语的状况、性质、特征等情况。
